New York -- Holding signs that feature the most unflattering picture of Vogue editor Anna Wintour that PETA could find, along with the slogan, "Fur Is Worn by Beautiful Animals and Ugly People," PETA members will gather outside the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn on Monday while Wintour gives a talk inside. One activist will hold a lifelike skinned "fox" to represent the countless animals whose skins adorn the pages of Vogue in the form of ads for fur jackets and coats.

When:   Monday, April 19, 5 p.m.
Where:  Pratt Institute (main gate), intersection of Hall Street and DeKalb Avenue, Brooklyn

"We scoured photo agencies for the shot that most accurately reflects Wintour's selfish, cruel nature, and although there were many candidates, this one summed it up best," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "Wintour is the perfect poster girl for one of the most hideous industries on the planet."

PETA is pressuring Wintour to stop promoting fur in the pages of Vogue, pointing out that animals who are trapped in the wild often suffer for days before they're stomped or bludgeoned to death. Animals on filthy fur farms are confined to tiny wire cages, in which they are exposed to all weather extremes, and many are driven insane from the constant confinement. The animals are then poisoned, injected with weedkiller, gassed, anally electrocuted, or--as often happens--skinned alive. PETA sent Wintour undercover investigation footage of fur farms: It takes a strong stomach to watch the videos and a cold heart to ignore them.
