Salem, N.J. — After learning that a K-9 dog named Jordon was shot in the chest during a standoff between police and a man on E. Broadway on Wednesday, PETA staffers are chipping in and sending a contribution to the Salem County K-9 Association, which requested donations to help pay for the dog's medical care. PETA is also sending Jordan a basket full of dog treats and toys to make his recovery more pleasant.

"Whether canine or human, police officers are owed a debt of gratitude when they risk their lives in the line of duty," says PETA Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. "Police dogs deserve the very same level of care and compassion as their handlers, and we wish Jordan a speedy recovery, peaceful tours of duty, and a happy retirement when the time comes."
