Washington -- Today's baseball stadiums offer an
ever-increasing array of healthy and delicious vegetarian food choices. So for
the 11th straight year, PETA has ranked the Top 10
Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks, and Nationals Park made PETA's list
this year, coming in at number eight.
"Bryce Harper, Stephen Strasburg, and Gio Gonzalez have
helped make the Nats a winning ballclub, and the vegetarian options at
Nationals Park—including chili made with mock meat, veggie burgers, tofu
sandwiches with Vegenaise, and falafel—have won the stadium a spot in PETA's
standings," says PETA Associate Director Chris Holbein.
Other big hits leading the vegetarian lineup at Nationals
Park include grilled vegetable wraps, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches,
hummus with pita chips, and mini black-bean burgers.
Sliding into first place is Citizens Bank Park, home
of the Philadelphia Phillies, which serves barbecue-pit-style
vegetarian beef and decadent faux-chicken sandwiches. Climbing all the way to
second place after receiving only an honorable mention last year is Safeco
Field, home of the Seattle Mariners and now home to vegan
specialties such as the Seattle chili veggie dog with vegan cream cheese and
the IchiBan veggie dog with teriyaki-glazed onions, grated daikon and carrot,
shredded nori, and creamy vegan dressing. Rounding out the top five are the Detroit
Tigers' Comerica Park, the Oakland A's O.co Coliseum, and the Los
Angeles Dodgers' Dodger Stadium. Hammond Stadium, home of the
Fort Myers Miracle, took top honors in the minor leagues.
Each major and minor league team to make the Top 10
Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks list will receive a framed certificate
from PETA. For more information and to see the complete major and minor league
