Milwaukee -- After nearly 60,000 votes were cast in the final round alone, 33-year-old Milwaukee resident Loyal Mehnert beat out nine other finalists to be crowned the male winner of PETA's 2010 Sexiest Vegetarian Next Door contest. Now, he and a friend are bound for beautiful Maui, where they will spend seven nights courtesy of the PETA Member Advantage Program.

"Loyal is living proof that going vegetarian is a great way to protect your health, boost your energy level, and ramp up your sex appeal," says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. "After all, what's sexier than someone who exudes passion and compassion?"

Since moving from Chicago four years ago, Loyal has come to love Milwaukee and says that the city's vegetarian scene can't be beat. He's an avid environmentalist, and he loves to travel. His work and volunteer efforts in fundraising have taken him to 20 countries on five continents. Loyal's culinary horizons have greatly expanded since he went vegetarian 10 years ago, thanks in large part to Moroccan, Ethiopian, Thai, and Vietnamese cuisine as well as other delicious and healthy ethnic food.

Loyal's incredibly high energy level came in handy last year when he hiked the Appalachian Trail to raise money for post-Hurricane Katrina rebuilding efforts--the other hikers couldn't get enough of his protein-packed soy jerky. He'll be leaving soon for earthquake-stricken Haiti to do volunteer work, and then he's off to hike the Camino de Santiago in France and Spain to raise money for families in need. Loyal's turn-ons include women who volunteer and wear sundresses, and he admits to having a crush on actor and vegan beauty Natalie Portman.
