Maker of Mouthwatering Chocolates Given Top Honor in Annual Libby Awards
For Immediate Release:February 17, 2010
Contact:Rachel Owen 757-622-7382,Indianapolis -- Endangered Species Chocolate's (ESC) Organic Smooth Dark Chocolate has won the Libby Award for Best Vegan Chocolate from peta2, the world's largest youth animal rights organization. The fourth annual Libby Awards ("Libby" is short for "liberation") honor animal-friendly people and products. Visitors to peta2.com helped the group determine the winners by voting for their favorites in each category.
ESC was founded in 1993, and the chocolatier's mission is to spread awareness of the growing number of animal and plant species that are disappearing around the world. The company's core values are reverence for life and respect for the Earth and all its inhabitants. Choosing vegan chocolate can help reduce both animal abuse and trips to the doctor: Cows used for their milk endure immense suffering on factory farms--including having their calves taken from them within hours of birth--and the consumption of dairy products has been linked to human health problems such as heart disease and obesity.
''Endangered Species Chocolate proves that you can make heavenly chocolates without supporting hellish dairy factory farms," says peta2 Director Dan Shannon. "ESC uses only the finest ingredients, and that includes compassion for animals and respect for producers and nature."
ESC won out over Trader Joe's 100 Calorie 70% Dark Chocolate Bar, Goldenberg's Peanut Chews, Ritter Sport Marzipan chocolate, and last year's Libby winner, Ghirardelli Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips.
Thirty-eight Libby Awards were given out this year, recognizing everything from the most animal-friendly athlete and record label to the most animal-friendly rock band and clothing company. Winners will receive plaques and will be featured on peta2.com.
