Fort Myers, Fla. -- Today's baseball stadiums offer an ever-increasing array of healthy and delicious vegetarian food choices. So, for the sixth straight year, PETA has ranked the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks in the minor league, and for the second consecutive year, Hammond Stadium has grabbed first place in the minors.
"Hammond Stadium might host the minor leagues, but when it comes to the delicious health-, Earth-, and animal-friendly food offered at its concession stands, it's a major league player all the way," says PETA Associate Director Chris Holbein. "Even before the first pitch is thrown out, the Miracle is a big winner in our book."
Leading off the lineup at Hammond are the veggie tacos, vegetable sandwiches, and vegan cheeseburgers. Batting cleanup are the nutritious vegetarian baked beans, fresh fruit and vegetable platter, and standby veggie dogs.
Coming in a close second is Frontier Field, home of New York's Rochester Red Wings. Its specialties include vegan pizza, veggie dogs and burgers, portobello mushroom burgers, and pasta with tomato sauce. Rounding out the top five minor league ballparks are the Durham Bulls Athletic Park, the Wilmington Blue Rocks' Daniel S. Frawley Stadium, and the Tulsa Drillers' ONEOK Field. Finishing in first place in the major leagues is the Philadelphia Phillies' Citizens Bank Park, whose BBQ veggie "Pit Beef," vegan chicken-steak, and faux-chicken patty sandwich put the Phils over the top for the fifth time in the past six years.
Each major and minor league team to make the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks list will receive a framed certificate from PETA. For more information and to see the complete major and minor league rankings, please click here and here.
