Cincinnati, Ohio -- Sweltering in full-length fur coats, PETA members will endure the summer heat
as they confine themselves to small cages outside Saks Fifth Avenue
in Cincinnati on Tuesday. They will hold signs reading, "Summer Is No
Vacation for Animals" and "Animals Are Not Ours to Wear." Their
point? Not only do fur-bearing animals suffer when they're skinned alive, they
also suffer during the summer months when they are confined to cages in
extremely hot temperatures.
When: Tuesday, June 19, 12 noon
Where: Saks Fifth Avenue, 101 W. Fifth St., Cincinnati
"Animals on fur farms are literally
dying to get out of their cages," says PETA's Virginia Fort. "Our
PETA demonstrators can leave their cages any time they want. The only time
animals on fur farms leave their cages is when they are killed or when they die
Animals raised on fur farms are confined
year-round to cramped, filthy cages and suffer
from physical and psychological distress before they are killed by poisoning,
gassing, anal electrocution, or neck-breaking. In
the summer, countless animals (particularly
young ones) also suffer from heat exhaustion
and dehydration. PETA has obtained and will share at the demonstration video
footage of fur farms
in China—now the world's leading fur exporter—that shows animals, including
cats and dogs, who were skinned alive.
