New York — Today's baseball stadiums offer an ever-increasing array of healthy and delicious vegetarian food choices. So, for the 11th straight year, PETA has ranked the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks, and Citi Field has grabbed the sixth place.
"Johan Santana, David Wright, and R.A. Dickey aren't the only big draws at Citi Field," says PETA Associate Director Chris Holbein. "Mets' faithful are also flocking to the stadium for the veggie patty sandwich, veggie dogs, veggie burgers, grilled vegetable hero sandwiches, and other meatless meals."
Other meatless options leading the vegetarian lineup at Citi Park are the meatless taco, vegetarian sushi, and salads. Other big hits include the sautéed broccoli rabe, poached spring asparagus, fresh fruit, and poached spring asparagus.
Sliding into first place is Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, which serves BBQ pit–style vegetarian beef and decadent faux-chicken sandwiches. Climbing all the way to second place after receiving only an honorable mention last year is Safeco Field, home of the Seattle Mariners and now home to vegan specialties like the Seattle chili veggie dog with vegan cream cheese and the IchiBan veggie dog with teriyaki-glazed onions, grated daikon and carrot, shredded nori, and creamy vegan dressing. Rounding out the top five are the Detroit Tigers' Comerica Park, the Oakland A's O.co Coliseum, and the Los Angeles Dodgers' Dodger Stadium. Hammond Stadium, home of the Fort Myers Miracle, took top honors in the minor leagues.
Each major and minor league team to make the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks list will receive a framed certificate from PETA. For more information and to see the complete major and minor league rankings, please click here and here.
