“Bruised”, “bloody,” and gripping the bars of a cage, twin sisters Jess and Lisa Origliasso—the force behind the chart-topping Australian pop-rock duo The Veronicas—star in a newly released campaign for peta2, PETA’s youth division, that pleads, “Don’t Wear Fur or Fur Trim.” The ad, available here, was shot by top celebrity photographer Joseph Cultice.

In an exclusive video interview, Lisa and Jess point to the extreme cruelty of the fur industry. “It’s barbaric,” Jess says. “They’re beaten, they’re anally and vaginally electrocuted, they’re drowned, they’re … trapped and skinned alive.” That’s why the duo encourages everyone to shop fur-free. “You would have to be an inhumane person [not to care about the animals’ suffering],” Jess says. “Designers that still use fur, to us … it’s ignorant and it’s unnecessary and unacceptable.”

The sisters have been speaking out against fur since 2009, when Jess first emblazoned the back of her jacket with the words “F*** Fur”—an action that prompted the duo’s first anti-fur campaign. Their new campaign comes just as “You Ruin Me,” the first single off their self-titled third studio album, has rocketed to the top of the charts.

The Veronicas are part of a long list of musicians and other celebrities—including Steve Aoki, Ke$ha, Kid Ink, Best Coast, and fellow Aussie rockers Tonight Alive—who have teamed up with peta2 to promote kindness to animals.
