Norfolk, Va. — Baseball might be the national pastime, but vegetarian dishes could soon be the national food if the offerings at baseball games are any indication. That’s why, for the 12th straight year, PETA has picked the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Major League Ballparks, and for the seventh straight year, the group has also ranked minor league parks.

“The more that fans learn about the health benefits of eating vegetarian, the more they ask for delicious meat-free options,” says PETA Senior Vice President Lisa Lange. “Going vegetarian is like pulling off a triple play: You protect your health, help keep the environment clean, and save animals’ lives.”

Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, has been on the top of the survey for six of the past seven years. In addition to the popular veggie dogs, black-bean burgers, and meat-free burritos, Phillies faithful can enjoy faux-chicken patties and mock beefsteaks as well as hummus with pretzels and more. Rising one notch from last year to grab second place is the Detroit Tigers’ Comerica Park. The park boasts mock Italian sausage, vegan riblet sandwiches, and a vegetarian sushi platter.

Rounding out the top five are Nationals Park (Washington Nationals), AT&T Park (San Francisco Giants), and Angel Stadium (Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim). In the minor leagues, the portobello mushroom burger, tofu noodle entrée, and homemade veggie burgers on pretzel buns made the Tulsa Drillers’ ONEOK Field a big winner.

PETA also ranks vegetarian-friendly NFL stadiums. Last season, James Nolan, senior vice president of Gillette Stadium (New England Patriots), which placed second in the survey, told The Boston Globe, “Our research suggested that our fans were seeking more vegetarian options. They have been some of our best sellers.”

Each major and minor league team to make the Top 10 Vegetarian-Friendly Ballparks list will receive a framed certificate from PETA. For more information and to see the complete rankings, please visit PETA’s major league and minor league blog posts.
