Carson City, Mich. — He was feared as the ultra-efficient killing machine Agent Zero in the box-office hit film X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but now actor and Carson City native Daniel Henney has taken on a very different kind of role: helping to end the homeless dog and cat crisis. He stars in two brand-new ads for PETA Asia—one encouraging prospective guardians to adopt an animal from a shelter and the other addressing the vital importance of having all cats and dogs spayed or neutered.

“There are millions more dogs and cats in the world than there are loving homes for them, so if you’re considering bringing an animal into your home, please be part of the solution and always adopt from an animal shelter,” Henney says.

Henney wants his fans to know that every time someone buys a cat or dog from a breeder or pet store, an animal languishing in a shelter or struggling to stay alive on the streets loses a chance at finding a home.

In one year, an unspayed cat can give birth to 16 kittens, who can go on to reproduce in just four months. An unspayed dog can give birth to up to 12 puppies in a year. Cats and dogs can go back into heat just days after giving birth. Spaying and neutering means that countless animals will never be left on the streets to fend for themselves, succumb to untreated injuries or illnesses, become the victims of abuse, or be turned over to an animal shelter and have to be euthanized because no one wanted them. Sterilization also benefits their health because it decreases their risk of some forms of cancer and makes males less likely to roam and fight.
