Portland, Ore. -- Holding a banner reading, "Save Our Skins!" from an overpass above busy Interstate 5, PETA members dressed as a fox, a cow, and a sheep will greet morning commuters and remind them to give animals who suffer in the fur, leather, and wool industries a reason to rejoice this holiday season.
Date: Wednesday, December 20
Time: 4 p.m. sharp
Place: N.E. Alberta, over I-5, facing north, Portland
Why is PETA lumping leather and wool together with fur? For the animals who are mutilated, treated like unfeeling machines, and denied everything that is natural and important to them in animal factories before they are slaughtered, there’s no difference between fur, leather, and wool. All cause great suffering that can be avoided simply by choosing any of the many warm and fashionable alternatives to animal skins.
"Fur, leather, and wool belong only on the backs of their original owners," says PETA’s Angela Modzelewski. "With all the luxurious alternatives available, we’re asking shoppers to go faux and help make fur, leather, and wool a thing of Christmas past."
