Norfolk, Va. — In the latest salvo in its campaign to reform Jennifer Lopez’s shameless promotion of fur, both in her clothing line and her personal wardrobe, PETA has given everyone who wants to protect animals from J.Lo’s clutches a chance to do just that—or at least pretend to. PETA’s new flash game, called J.Lo: Fur Bully From the Block, is now on PETA’s Web site JLoDown.com. Players earn points by rescuing animals before their skins wind up on J.Lo’s clothing racks. Players will have to watch their backs, though—the "Queen of Mean" will hunt them down as they liberate animals and leaflet factory workers!
The person who forwards the game to the most people will win a brand-new iPod—with absolutely no J. Lo songs included.
A recent investigation found that millions of dogs and cats in China—now the world’s leading fur producer—are strangled with wire nooses, bludgeoned, hanged, and bled to death for their fur, which is often deliberately mislabeled as fur from other species and is exported to the United States. In other countries, animals killed for fur are trapped, drowned, and beaten to death in the wild and gassed, strangled, and electrocuted on fur farms.
Many hot designers, including Stella McCartney, Betsey Johnson, and Marc Bouwer, have turned their backs on fur and created fashions that are hip, humane, and easily available—and they don’t turn animals into fashion victims.
"J.Lo: Fur Bully From the Block is a cool way of letting people know that J.Lo needs to get some animal consciousness," says PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk. "Buying anything with fur—even if it’s just ‘a little trim’—supports one of the most gruesome industries on the planet."
