San Diego -- As the NFL season hits the midway mark, it's time for PETA's annual ranking of clubs that are doing the best job of satisfying their fans' growing hunger for healthy, humane, and Earth-friendly vegetarian options. And because there's more delicious vegetarian food available at sporting events than ever before, PETA has had to double its list of winners. Chargers fans will be pleased to know that Qualcomm Stadium, the home of their beloved team, has made the cut.
Chargers fans have their choice of many meat-, dairy-, and egg-free options (some of which are available only in premium or club seating areas), including veggie burgers, seven-layer dip, taco salad, a vegetable plate, and selections from a baked-potato bar.
Taking first place is the Oakland Raiders' home stadium, Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum, whose spicy Tex-Mex burrito clinched the win. The San Francisco 49ers' Candlestick Park came in a close second.
Rounding out the top 10 are Lambeau Field (Green Bay Packers), University of Phoenix Stadium (Arizona Cardinals), M&T Bank Stadium (Baltimore Ravens), Cleveland Browns Stadium (Cleveland Browns), the Metrodome (Minnesota Vikings), the Georgia Dome (Atlanta Falcons), and Heinz Field (Pittsburgh Steelers).
"Chargers fans are bolting to the concession stands for delicious vegetarian food faster than LT in the open field," says PETA Director Dan Shannon. "The best way for people to sack potential health problems and hit pay dirt for animals and the environment is to choose vegan foods every chance they get."
