Merrimack, N.H. -- Brookstone district managers participating in meetings and store visits in the Manchester area this week may be surprised to see their "shadow." A larger-than-life PETA "frog" holding a sign reading, "Frogs Are Dying to Get Out of Brookstone," will follow them wherever they go. The giant amphibian will also participate in a demonstration in Merrimack on Tuesday.
When: Tuesday, September 15, 12 noon
Where: Northwest corner of Daniel Webster Highway (aka Old Route 3 or Concord Street) and Henry Clay Drive, Merrimack
Despite numerous complaints from customers, mall retailer Brookstone continues to sell African dwarf frogs and snails in tiny, inadequate tanks called "Frog-O-Spheres." In the tanks, the animals are sometimes slowly poisoned by their own waste. Brookstone employees who see sick and dying frogs are allegedly instructed to put the animals in the back, out of customers' sight, where they often languish and die without veterinary care.
"Since Brookstone's management seems to have no conscience, we hope that our frog will serve as a reminder of the suffering that they're causing," says PETA Vice President Daphna Nachminovitch. "Sentencing these animals to life in a tiny prison has compassionate customers running for the exits and heading to stores that don't try to make a fast buck on animal abuse."
