Tortonto -- In response to a request from PETA, CN Tower--the tallest building in North America and the second-tallest building in the world--has agreed to stop selling fur in its gift shop. In an e-mail sent to PETA, CN Tower Marketing Manager of Public Relations Irene Knight stated that the gift shop, which had been selling hats made out of rabbit and raccoon fur, will "discontinue this product effective immediately."
Animals trapped for fur suffer excruciating pain before trappers stomp on their chests or break their necks. On fur farms, animals spend their entire lives in tiny, filthy cages before they are killed with poison, gas, or anal electrocution or their necks are broken.
"There's a world of suffering in every fur hat and piece of fur trim," says PETA President Ingrid E. Newkirk. "CN Tower is to be commended for keeping the fur on the animals' backs by taking the fur off its shelves."
CN Tower joins a growing list of companies that refuse to sell fur, including Polo Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, Forever 21, Liz Claiborne, Wet Seal, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Banana Republic.
