Salt Lake City - After thousands of votes were tallied, 21-year-old Salt Lake City resident Shona Barnthouse beat out 15 other female finalists to be crowned winner of PETA's 2008 "Sexiest Vegetarian" contest. Just to become a finalist, Shona had to edge out hundreds of other entrants from across Canada and the U.S. in the online contest held at PETA's Web site GoVeg.com. Now, she and a special friend are bound for beautiful Maui, where they will spend seven nights courtesy of Holiday Systems International.

Counting hot blonde PETA pals Pam Anderson and Alicia Silverstone among her role models, Shona recently went vegetarian and immediately noticed a big boost in energy. Her muscle tone also improved, which is an important consideration for Shona, who dances and models. An animal lover for as long as she can remember, Shona never fails to stop and help animals in need, including the many times that she has come to the aid of injured or malnourished horses. She refuses to wear leather and loves shopping for trendy clothes that are free of animal skins.

"Shona is a big winner in anybody's book," says PETA Vice President Bruce Friedrich. "Her smart move to go vegetarian has improved her health and helped stop animal suffering--being sexy is just one more 'perk.'"
