New York --Leery of incurring Mayor Giuliani's wrath, New York billboard companies, taxi tops, and the city's biggest flyposting company have all rejected PETA's new anti-dairy ad, and the group is desperately trying to find a place for it. The ads feature a milk-mustachioed Giuliani above the headline "Got Prostate Cancer?" - advice PETA says the mayor could have used years ago.
"Lotsa mothers give their kids lotsa milk," the ad reads. "Now, some of their sons have prostates the size of the Empire State Building. Studies show that dairy consumption may increase your risk of prostate cancer. Hmmm, maybe that explains why Hillary Clinton's campaign headquarters kept sending over those free ice cream sandwiches."
Of course, PETA's main beef is with the way the dairy industry treats animals. Today's "dairy cows" are continually impregnated (on what farmers call a "rape rack") to keep them lactating. Farmers steal and sell the milk nature meant for their calves. The calves are condemned to the veal crate or the auction block. To save time and human labor, factory farmers use milking machines that often cause cuts, inflammation, and electric shocks to cows" udders.
"Giuliani's father succumbed to prostate cancer, and now the mayor has been diagnosed with this dairy-related disease," says PETA President Ingrid Newkirk. "Milk and meat are not only murder, they are a form of suicide."
