other day, my boyfriend got a sudden craving for a bologna sandwich. He
reminisced about packed lunches from his elementary school days, featuring a
bologna sandwich complete with white bread, mayo, and a slice of American
cheese (homeboy was not healthy
before he met me). I've never been a fan of that particular style of lunch meat,
but he was pumped to pick up a vegan version of it during our weekly trip to
the grocery store, so who was I to stop him? Watching him happily munch away on
it made me wonder how the vegan style compared, nutritionally, to the nonvegan version. Here's
what I found:
GROSS! With only little more than half the amount of food, the nonvegan bologna
slices have way more fat and cholesterol but significantly less protein! Staring at these abysmal
statistics, all I can do is shake my head. Veganism and I saved my
boyfriend's health. True story.
P.S. Yves Veggie Cuisine and Field Roast also make delectable meatless deli slices!
