Matchup of the Week: Burgers

The following article was written by Keegan Baur.

Burgers seem to be a staple of the average American's diet. The existence of fast-food chains all across the country proves that we usually want food that's quick, easy, and tasty. Unfortunately, most traditional burgers come loaded with calories and dripping with grease and fat.

Luckily, vegan burgers are much kinder to both animals and your waistline! Check out the stats for my favorite veggie burger from Amy's and see how it compares to Burger King's Whopper:

Amy's All American Burger

  • Calories: 140
  • Total Fat: 3.5 g
  • Total Carbohydrate: 14 g
  • Protein: 13 g
  • Cholesterol: 0 mg

  • Total Fat: 17 g
  • Total Carbohydrate: 0 g
  • Protein: 19 g
  • Cholesterol: 65 mg

With almost five times the amount of fat and all that excess cholesterol, it's not difficult to identify which burger is a better choice for the health of your heart. I even keep down the calories by using 100% Whole-Wheat Arnold Select Sandwich Thins. Top that baby with some hummus and a slice of avocado, and I am one happy camper!

So next time you're hankerin' for some all-American burger goodness, say "Goodbye!" to beef and "Hello!" to a deliciously cruelty-free veggie burger.
