Have a Heart for All Moms This Mother's Day

The following article was written by Ashley Palmer.

I'm really looking forward to Mother's Day this weekend, especially because I'll get to spend it with my mom, who is flying all the way from Ohio to Los Angeles to visit me. I've got the whole day planned, but I don't want to give away all the surprises just yet. I'll give you one little hint, though: I'm planning on whipping up a pretty epic vegan brunch featuring tofu scrambletempeh bacon, hash browns, and French toast casserole.

All mothers deserve to feel loved, cared for, and appreciated on Mother's Day, and around here, that includes nonhuman animal moms too! To celebrate, here are three fun animal mom facts:

  • Elephant moms deserve an award for the longest pregnancy of all mammals. Mom, you thought nine months was a long time? Try nearly two years!
  • Dolphins are dedicated caretakers who share a deep bond with their young. Mothers and their babies even synchronize their breathing for the first few weeks following the babies' birth.
  • For a mother cow and her baby, it's love at first site. Cow moms have been known to escape their enclosures and travel for miles looking for their calves.

This Mother's Day, honor all moms by making sure this special day is filled with cruelty-free food, entertainment, and fun. How will you be celebrating Mother's Day this year?
