Make Ice Cream Without an Ice Cream Maker!

Written by Ashley Palmer | July 21, 2011

Did you know that July is National Ice Cream Month? Celebrate with this simple recipe, which calls for only three ingredients. The best part: no ice cream maker required!

Just grab a ripe banana, and pop it in the freezer to create a cool, creamy, and delicious base for your vegan ice cream. I like to top mine with soy whipped cream, chocolate chips, and toasted almonds. Delish!

Three-Ingredient Vegan Ice Cream

1 banana, peeled and frozen
1 Tbsp. peanut butter
1 tsp. cocoa powder
Additional flavorings (optional)

  • Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender and mix until well combined and creamy.
  • If desired, add additional flavors or toppings, such as cookies, fresh fruit, shredded coconut, cinnamon, or pieces of candy.
  • Serve immediately.

I LOVE this recipe! I, unfortunately, used too much cocoa powder, though, so it was VERY strong! Love it, though. 🙂

This is absolutely delicious! Even my meat-eating husband enjoyed it. Congrats on a recipe well done.

This is aimed at ‘Jared’ normal ice cream that you buy in the stores has beaver anal secretion as flavouring..little-no respect for carnivores, that would suck! 😀

Just tried this out, pretty nummy! As a newbie vegan (I went from full on omnivore to vegan a week or so ago) I have been worried most about the temptation of dairy products (ice cream & cheese) I am happy to say this will fix my ice cream cravings! I used a regular sized blender and I was unable to get the banana to fully blend, but still SUPER yummy! THANK YOU!

Let’s not call this “ice cream” please.

  • Jared says:

Sounds disgusting to be honest. Much respect for the vegans, that would suck! 😀

my 8 year old loves to have this in a milk shake for breakfast. we don’t use cocoa powder, just the peanut butter. it is so smooth and creamy.

  • Karli says:

Delicious! Just wish I had saved myself some trouble and peeled the banana /before/ freezing it. *facepalm*

  • Melina says:

Hey guys, it also works if you freeze about 1 cup and a half of non-dairy milk in an ice cube tray instead of the banana, but it will be more a smoothie
And, use 1/4 of a cup of the milk in its liquid state instead of the PB
