Rose: Thanks for your comment, and I completely understand and support you in your decision. Unfortunately, we live in a world of conglomeration and more and more cruelty-free companies are growing in popularity and in turn being bought out by larger companies that do not have the same animal testing policy. We have to be realistic as this trend continues; if a company is not perpetuating animal testing, then we want to share this information with consumers. We do include a notation indicating which companies are owned by a non-compliant parent company so that consumers are fully informed and can make their own choices.

I do understand that however, Coty will still be getting a cut of the money in the end when purchasing opi. Who can honestly be happy about that? I would much rather choose a company where 100% of the money is in good hands. I'm sure alot of folks out there would agree. Brands who have not sold out (as far as I'm aware) such as Zoya, Color Club, China Glaze, Orly, Milani, Hard Candy, Wet N'Wild, e.l.f, Deporah Lippmann, Sinful Colors, Revlon, etc. Unfortunate bottom line is that money talks.

Sandi: Supporting vegan companies and products surely helps animals. We know that fashion is very important to a lot of people and it's important for them to know that they can get the same exact look without hurting animals. As far as animal testing goes, all of the companies we feature are cruelty-free/vegan. All of the companies that are included on the don’t test list have assured PETA that they do not test ingredients, formulations, or finished products on animals and neither do their suppliers. It is true that many cosmetic ingredients were tested on animals at some point in the past. However, at that time animal testing was the standard method used and it would be impossible for companies today to make products without utilizing some of these. The past can not be changed—what is important now is what companies are presently doing.

We are happy to let you know that OPI remains cruelty-free despite its acquisition by Coty. Once again, OPI has signed PETA’s statement of assurance to show its commitment to our Caring Consumer campaign and to verify that it will not conduct or commission any animal tests on ingredients, formulas, or finished products and that it pledges not to do so in the future.

O.P.I sold out to Coty, and Essie is also no longer cruelty-free as they have sold out to L'oreal. =(

Why would you want to wear stuff that looks like dead animals...like that handabg or those shoes? It's still promoting killing animals for fashion. Not so cruelty free. And I bet the chemicals in the nail polish were tested on animals. It's so nice how cosmetic companies use other companies' research and act so pious because they didn't have to animal test themselves. Please boycott most companies who claims "they don't test on animals." They are just as guilty by using the approved chemicals that were animal tested.

O.P.I Nail polish has sold out to...hmmm, I think Coty. Sadly Essie (another formerly cruelty-free brand) has sold out to L'oreal. :(

Ellen: This site is called Polyvore, and it is a social network (similar to Facebook and Twitter). They do not sell any products through the site, but people can post whatever kinds of products they like. The PETA account stands apart from other's because we choose to create stylish outfits without any animal products.
