  • S Gowan says:

What types of fabric do you recommend that are cruelty free, but also environmentally friendly. I know that some fabrics, like polyester are made with chemicals and do not decompose very well. Are you recommending any fabric that is cruelty free, even if it is not environmentally sustainable, which has a negative impact on animals as well.

  • GG says:

I have been raised (as well as many people in the country I live in) to know that leather and wool are the healthiest products for making clothes. We were not even thinking for what expense this health and comfort came for. You can guess the cruelty for the leather industry but what about other animal byproducts? And all these happen in an age where we can easily find substitutes for them. I’m happy to know that there are companies which respect animal rights.

I went to meijer, and got some nice onion/multi seed balegs. Then I picked up some really good hommus (not sure why it was spelled hommus instead of hummus?), however the flavor was amazing and the consistancy much better than what I was used to. Then I also got some crunch bean sprouts. Then when I got home I toasted the balegs and gave it a shot. I must say the flavors are very good, and even for someone my size it was a filling meal. Next, I put some nice bread and butter pickles on it and tried that and found that to be a very complimentary taste. Thank you for the great info and the videos, will be watching.

  • Crystal Waters says:

So many comments for and against vegan / vegetarian – it is quite simple. Follow your own path. Eat what makes you feel good and healthy. Most of you are simply judging each other when really, it’s no ones business but your own as to what your body enjoys eating. We are all individual. We are all unique. Many of us don’t eat meat because we feel guilty – not because we don’t like to eat it. I do not eat meat/dairy because of allergies, which opened me up to vegan living. Really, the humane treatment of animals must integrate all areas of our world – pets, farm animals, etc., I know vegans who don’t treat their pets & families well. Many of my vegan friends look emaciated – so thin and fragile – because a lot of them deny themselves nutritious food and hide their obsession behind the vegan label. All areas of our lives need to be explored for balance. Judging each other does not provide answers for the whole, it only gives an opportunity for argument and wanting to be right. Do what is best for you. Honor your body with food that makes it strong and healthy. Eat with presence – honor your food and water and where it came from. Everything we consume comes from and is supported by the Earth – necessity is the mother of invention. If we were starving we would eat whatever crossed our path. Peace.

  • MKMagMile says:

As a transitioning vegetarian, I gave up milk over a year ago. You can buy Almond Coconut milk, 1 Cup – 45 Calories, and 45% of the required calcium. It’s an acquired taste, but very worth it. The biggest problem for vegetarians is the protein. Eating enough beans is impossible. I do eat the Greek yogurt, 18 grams of protein in a serving and at least an animal is not killed in the process. I do eat Salmon. Red meat is out, I never did like the thought of eating a mammal and lots of cardiologists won’t touch it. That should tell us something. The other side of this is, of course the factory farming. Organic, sustainable and family owned. We will never convince the U.S. to become vegetarians, but we can give our business to those who deserve it and treat farm animals respectfully and humanely. Put the big factory farms out of business.

  • Cyndy says:

This is a comment for ‘somebody’….Our body is NOT made to eat meat. Our(humans)intestines are very long-meat gets stuck and begins to putrify and rot…hence ALL the cases of colon cancer. The animal (carnivores)have very short intestines…do not believe me all you ‘cavemen and cavewomen’who eat the flesh? Look it up..

  • I my cats says:

I love animals of all kinds, I have three cats all adopted off the streets, and I profane animal cruelty and the use of animals as entertainment, but being in the medical field I know our bodies must sustain nuetrients that can only be found in meat products. Vegetarian’s are healthier in the sense they have a lower BMI and cholesterol however vegetarians and all vegans do not get the minerals, vitamins and the correct amounts of calcium needed to sustain a healthy body, vegans are under weight, and vegetarians lack most minerals to include iron and potassium and magnesium that is needed for muscle and nerve health. Eating meat is not a crime, beef chicken and fish are all very beneficial to a human’s body and mind. Dairy is needed to build healthy bones and muscle, taking a supliment is only a small part of helping your body but you need the calcium and vitamins taht are provided in these products to help your body sustain energy. I’m not saying Veganism and vegetarinaism are wrong, but I hope those who have this lifestyle are taking a mulititude of vitamins and minerals that you don’t get from a tofu burger. You may feel “healthy” but in reality, you’re not. BTW PETA keep up the good work in shutting down the circus’s, one rolled through our city a few months ago and they had the nerve to send us “free tickets” needless to say they went into the garbage. • Alaskan Native says:

Im with Animal lover 65, and hunter gatherer. Im a Native American of the Athabaskan tribe, and live in Interior Alaska, in a little village named Fort Yukon. I live a truly Subsitence lifestlye, I hunt Moose and Caribou for meat, fish for salmon to feed my dog team, pick berries, grow vegetables, yes I have a dog team and I mush them in the winter to run my TRAPLINE.And they love it. They were bred to run run run. I love each and everyone of my dogs and by no means have ever abused them. They live to run, go crazy if they dont get to. They eat nothing but dried salmon.(what does your dog eat?) There is very little income as far as cash for groceries as there are no jobs, the little money I do make is from selling my furs, Military disability benefits( Iraq,2008)and the Alaska permanent fund dividend.A gallon of milk cost $12.72 and gas is around $8 a gallon here. So its not like I can just go to the store and buy whatever I need. You either Shoot it, fish it, or grow it as far as food goes. How can you use the word “barbaric” to describe the relationship between a animal and its owner when the owner feeds it, raises it, and protect it from wolves and disease, and all it has to give is a little wool, a little milk, and its body when its time and when its time to end the life of an animal it is done humanely and fast. Barbaric is a bear eating a Moose alive legs first(seen it).The way we humans treat each other is barbaric. No one that hunts traps fishes enjoys the death of ANY animal, but that is how the world was and still is before people (you)moved to the suburbs and away from having to kill your own food.In fact, This big 6’2 230 lb native man cries when I have to end the life of a fellow animal; we are animals, to natives we see the moose, the fox, even the chickadee as our brothers, and we never take more than we need, always RESPECT them, say prayers and thank you to the animal for giving its life to sustain my own, and my family. Do you realize there are MANY MANY MANY rules and regulations, seasons, methods and means, bag limits created by state wildlife protection agencies? They have proven to be instrumental in controling wildlife populations so you city people can come spend a week in the woods and still see these animals. Which is great, I hope you can know all of our animal brothers. But the fact is we are animals, and animals kill, eat, and use other animals. Also to jsanta, I have been wearing the same caribou skin parka and my beaver skin mukluks for 11 years now, but then again I wear clothes for utility, not to look good. All Im saying is, respect the ways of our(even you city folk)elders,Please try to understand that we human animals are a very important part of the balance of life, god made animals out of meat, leather, and fur for a reason. Please, before you start pushing your beliefs on others, live without all of your modern day technoligies for a while and try to imagine what it was and is still like in the wilderness. Thank you.

  • mar'stears says:

I was just reading Animal Lover—or should I say ‘mountain man’. I am older than you, but when I was young I went once with an uncle who had laid traps in the nearby swamp land. My uncle was a God fearing family man who owned a lot of land. I was not prepared for what I would see. When we found a trap, and I saw where an animal had chewed off its lower leg to get out of the trap, I went a little crazy. I cried and cried and he took me home. I never forgot that sight and never thought the same of my uncle. Why would you even put something on this site. You must be aware you have an opinion that is not conducive to PETA. You’re wrong by the way. There are jackets out there now, that are twice as good at keeping cold and wind off people. You’re still living in the past. If the apocalypse happens we will either all die right away or we won’t want to live. Do you possibly think I would want to live, isolated in the woods killing animals to live (if there are any left). Why not respect the life of animals who have young, take care of them, feel fear, feel pain. No, I have no respect for people who have to have the latest fad regardless.

  • @ Animal Lover 65 says:

You don’t understand that animals are NOT ours. It’s for people like you why there is war, fighting, and hate. If we were all peaceful and nice to everything the world would be beautiful. But you make it ugly.

  • JSanta says:

Wait, why is Animal Lover 65 even on here? FYI the raising of animals and barbaric killing of them actually produces more CO2 and water waste than the production of alternative goods. The tanning process of the majority of leathers is highly toxic, not to mention usually done overseas, the leather is worn for one season, two max and dumped. So the life cycle of the object is much shorter than a faux version and not only costs more, but pollutes more. Get your facts straight and research before you start boasting of your ignorant ways. Oh and while you’re researching, I suggest you look up the Story of Stuff and Food Matters. Meat Eater.

  • Pet cremation tulsa Oklahoma says:

As I talked about in a post a couple of weeks back, ferrets can make wonderful pets. But for some people the most important question that needs to be answered before acquiring one does not center on their suitability as a companion, but their legality.

  • Hunter Gatherer says:

I am with you Animal Lover 65!! Too many idealists with no idea of real world situations for many of us. Gee Naturegirl16 thanks for the lesson in sustainable existence.
I respect life and I would say all indigenous cultures that rely on the land for survival know more about the relationship with the earth and her inhabitants than a mob of blogging Westerners, myself included.
