P!nk Pipes Up For PETA
Celebrities and clubgoers know that the only fur they will see is faux when entering New York City’s trendiest hotspot, thanks to a new dress code heralded on posters by P!nk, who declares, “The Only Wildlife at Centro-Fly Is Human—No Fur Coats Allowed!”

The spunky Grammy-winning singer, whose hits include “Get the Party Started” and “Don’t Let Me Get Me,” is tickled … well … pink by Centro-Fly’s no-fur policy.

Steve Lewis, who manages SPA, another New York nightclub, made his club fur-free in 2000. Following SPA’s compassionate lead, Centro-Fly bouncers shoo away fur-wearers, even P. Diddy, refusing to allow club crawlers to flaunt animal cruelty. Every year, millions of animals are trapped, drowned, or beaten to death in the wild and gassed, strangled, or electrocuted on fur farms. Fur sales are half of what they were in the 1980s, and today’s top designers, Calvin Klein, Todd Oldham and Stella McCartney, refuse to design with fur.

P!nk recently talked with Animal Times about animals and their rights. Here’s what she had to say:

When did you first become concerned about animals and about killing animals for fur?
I’ve always felt that animals are the purest spirits in the world. They don’t fake or hide their feelings, and they are the most loyal creatures on Earth. And somehow we humans think we’re smarter—what a joke. Every time I had to do a report or a debate in school, I would research the topic of animal rights. I was horrified to find the cruelty and pain that they were forced to endure at our hands. How we used them in our race for “evolution” (i.e., better products, more expensive hair dyes, better-tasting toothpaste, prettier jackets). I wish every person was forced to know and learn and experience the horrors that these animals go through at the cost of our trends. We should know about the realities of the relationship between humans and animals.

“I hope [fur wearers] someday get bitten in the ass by the same kind of animal they wear on their back.”
Did you wear fur at one time or have you always been fur-free?
I would like to say I’ve always been fur-free so I could be proud of myself. Unfortunately, I went through a selfish phase and wore fur on a couple of occasions. But since then, I’ve wised up and now boycott fur completely.

What do you say to people who wear fur or are pro-fur?
I believe in the saying,“To each his/her own,” but I hope they someday get bitten in the ass by the same kind of animal they wear on their back.

Do you have any animals? Can you tell us any stories about them?
I currently have two dogs and two rats.

Oh, and a boyfriend—does that count? I love them very much. I aspire to have a lot of land one day where I will rescue and board many animals.
