Commando Chicks Cause Flap in Supermarket
PETAs Commando Chicks, three sexy vegans armed with ticket guns and accompanied by a giant chicken (actually, a Time magazine reporter), invaded a Wilmington, Delaware, grocery store. They attempted to label poultry with stickers reading, Warning! This package contains the decomposing corpse of a small, tortured bird.
Chickens on factory farms suffer painful debeakingwithout anesthesiaand stress and disease from overcrowding. Chickens are not even covered by slaughter laws. The Commando Chicks, who received national coverage, may be hitting a supermarket near you!

Leave Horses Alone, Says Slick
Rock diva Grace Slick fired off a letter to Wyeth-Ayerst about the abuse of pregnant mares used to produce its estrogen-replacement drug Premarinand included a small vial of her own urine. Since you insist on putting urine in Premarin, Im donating some of my own, she wrote. Film star Rebecca De Mornay joined the effort by recording a message for PETAs Premarin hotline. She tells callers, ...add just a few drops of water to a crushed Premarin pillyou can smell the urine. And Cybill Shepherd revealed that her hot flashes stopped a week after she started taking natural plant estrogens.

Survivor: Rated X for X-treme Cruelty When TVs Survivor featured contestants giggling as they tried beating rats to death, spearing sea creatures, and chopping the head off a terrified chicken, PETA protested. The footage of adults casually and callously abusing animals sends a dangerous message to impressionable viewers.

Big-Time Big Top Cruelty
PETAs caged tigers, wearing painted-on stripes, reminded people around the world that animals in circuses spend most of their lives in storage. Elephants are shackled, and caged bears and tigers are taken out only to perform cruel and often frightening acts.
Patronize only animal-free circuses like Cirque Ingénieux, Cirque du Soleil and Circus Oz, which offer amazing human acts. Visit PETAs Web site at Circuses.com.

You Did It!
In less than a year, Perla de la Parra and other new activists in Mexico have brought animal rights to the attention of thousands. Using literature and costumes provided by PETA, they have held at least one demonstration every month on issues such as circuses, zoos, aquariums, bullfights and the abuse of bears in China. They also arranged a meeting with the Indian ambassador to discuss the cruel transportation of Indian cattle destined for slaughter. The activists even stood their ground when a circus owner drove his car directly at them during a protest, nearly running over two activists!
Recording artist/choreographer Jesse Richards wrote and performs in Animal Lovers Project, a musical to help build honor and respect for animals, as well as combat cruelty against them. Richards and her ensemble, Hundredth Monkey, have performed in the U.S. and Canada to rave reviews. To bring them to your city or for more information, please check out animalloversproject.com.

Run, Chicken Run
PETAs giant chickens went to the premiere of the pro-veggie hit film Chicken Run, making the point that real chickens suffer severe overcrowding, painful debeaking and declawing without anesthesia. Factory farmers genetically manipulate birds, causing the birds to grow so large that their legs cannot support their weight. Leg bones actually crack, and many birds slowly starve to death within inches of food troughs when they cant move.
