America's favorite pigs, Babe and Wilbur, have shown the world just how cute, clever, and compassionate pigs really are. Most people don't know that pigs are very similar to "man's best friend": dogs. Pigs are friendly, loyal, and very intelligent—they are even considered to be smarter than 3-year-old children.

People can eat meat if they want, but they can't be against vegetarianism, that's just ridiculous. The health and environmental benefits from a vegan diet are indisputable.

I agree with you, eating cute animals is wrong but are you going to explain that to carnivores, like the big cats of the jungle, crocodiles or any other animal that survives on meat? I understand that humans have the choice to be meat eaters. I am and i dont believe that we are eating young piglets. Its the older ones that are most likely to be killed and eaten. If they were torturing them it would be a completely different story but they're not. Most companies i know of execute them without causing them stress. When they die for natural reasons is it still frowned upon to eat the animal? Otherwise its a waste of good food. Animals are going to be eaten, either by us or another animal.. would you go off your nut at a lion pouncing on a zebra? No, you probably wouldnt? The lion is only trying to survive.. Its a dog eat dog world man, toughen up!

its true we dont need meat to survive , and eating fruit along with other non meat foods usually give us everything we need. people only think vegans eat veggies and nothing else.

Michelle, the difference is that humans are far more intelligent and also that would be CANIBALISM! dipwad. Thats completely different then someone slaughtering a pig for dinner. pigs dont eat pigs do they? You can not classify in the same species. And i also do not think that people will look back with shame. People will eat meat until the world blows up and they they will eat meat in the after life you will never stop it. You all can use guilt and humanity and all that crap all you want but it doesnt mean a lick to anyone who eats meat and enjoys it. You sound so ignorant. Animals were put on this earth to EAT, the human body NEEDS the protein to stay healthy. All i ever hear about is vegans having to take supplaments to fill in for all the stuff they are missing. I would much rather eat a steak once in a while then pop vitamins every day.

Another "weapon" meat eaters use against vegetarians is saying that plants are living things and it's not right to eat them. Plants have no central nervous systems and the word "pain" means nothing to them. Until we discover a way to live without having to live on plants, vegetarians will probably live on them. If you call that killing, then meat eaters "kill" more plants and vegetables because it takes hundreds thousands times more plants and vegetables to feed a pig or a cow than a human. You neighbor will still be your friendly neighbor if you pull a carrot out in your front yard. Now try to slaughter a chicken/pig/cow/dog/cat in front of your yard and meanwhile carry on a conversation with your neighbor, what would they do? They probably will sell the house and move as fast as they can. That's the difference between "killing a plant" and actually killing a living, defenseless animal. We humans can live on plants to survive, but we do not need to live on the taste of animal meat to survive.

The fact that some heartless, cruel people putting down dogs/cats does not make it right for you and I to kill our dogs/cats/pigs/chickens/cows and eat them. With so many vegetarian food choices today, we have all the more advantage to show that humans are indeed evolving, fair and decent. Respect life, treat a life as we ourselves would want to be treated.

It saddens me to read some people's comments. Sounds like someone is trying to comfort themselves by telling us about a good deal between him and the pig: before I "humanely" kill you and devour you, I feed you, wash you, let you have as much fun as you can during the short time you are alive, I even play with you sometimes and give you a nickname--piggy toe. Then when I crave for meat, you thank me with your life. Sounds like you are eating your friend? Does the pig sign that contract with you? If given a chance, he sure would choose not to be born at all instead of living an unnaturally short life and being hit/slitted/shot and die in his own blood. Killing is killing, there is such a thing called "raised humanely, but no such a thing called " killed humanely". W do have a lot of food choices nowadays, don't we? Need we kill a life?

@Steve I used to think like you once... today's world is so unbalanced that you need to take drastic steps to improve it. We fight animal cruelty (factory farming) by not eating meat. It is because of people that want to eat bacon every single morning that animal factories exist. Ain't ethical reason enough? Also Jake said that if we don't slaughter pigs they'll just pass their life and die one day. Don't you think most animals do that then (including us humans)? Also there are health benefits and spiritual ones from being vegetarian. Yoga and Ayurveda strongly focus on a vegetarian diet. I have lived in India for many years and the majority of the population is vegetarian or vegan since birth AND HEALTHY! It is sad that you guys feel that you have to attack people who support vegetarianism. Instead of attacking better take that time and energy to go out and save some animals!

Humans are not omnivores. Omnivores like lions, tigers, wolfs, have the same sharp teeth for cutting, the same stomach acid, and the same intestinal track to carnivores, except carnivores only eat meat. Omnivores eat both while possessing at the same time the design of a carnivore. Herbivores have flat molar teeth, like all herbivores do, and for a herbivore to eat meat it has to beat it with a toothed hammer to tenderize meat, pulverize it into liquid and than turn it back to a solid to be able to swallow it, or herbivores have to cook it soft enough to be edible so they don't choke on it.

Steve: Animals who eat other animals in the wild could not survive otherwise, but that is not the case for us. The easiest and best way for you to help end "cruelty to animals" is to stop eating them.

All these appeals seem a little emotional. the fact is there is no ethical reason for not eating meat. I admit that people have lost sight from where their food come from and hence do respect the animal. The fact is that animals eat each other that how nature is on planet earth. I is an argument for treating animals better you being stupid if you want to tell people eating meat is bad. better to focus on how to reduce animal crudity

@derrik First of all, billions is a bit of an exaggeration, since multi celled organisms have only existed for 1 billion, the earth only for four, and in around 5 billion years the earth will be consumed by the sun as it expands into a red giant. Second of all, do you seriously believe that humans are the only omnivorous species? Just to name one off the top of my head, what about bears? And lastly, you say that the less intelligent species' will die off, and then you follow up by saying that herbivores and carnivores will be the ones that survive! If you're trying to say that omnivores are stupid, then let me tell you, this. only one species has ever been to the moon, and you can bet your A that it was an omnivore!

@Jon THANK YOU!!! Finally someone on this site who isn't a complete moron! Trying to convince yourself that eating meat is wrong by saying things like, "being a vegetarian can highten your spirituality", is just downright stupid! The only thing that animals are designed to do is reproduce. With the introduction of agriculture, the population of livestock, (such as cows and pigs) has skyrocketed. Also, If a pig doesn't get slaughtered, it doesn't accomplish anything the rest of it's life until it eventually dies anyway of old age.

People would eat little to no meat if they had to hunt and kill for themselves. Sadly, animal production has been turned into a house-of-horrors industrial practice. Frankly, I don't know how people can eat animals that are sick or close to death due to how they are raised... example: chickens. I stopped eating meat after watching on the news a sick milk cow with broken legs being pushed by a bulldozer onto a truck to be introduced to the meat market. Brutal. Unhealthy. Inhumane. Then I watched Food, Inc. I sobbed through the whole thing. I'm glad I'm aware but wish more people would wake up. Healthcare should not be my problem but should be the problem of the meat industries and those who encourage them by buying their disgusting products. Make them pay! I eat healthy.

Ok, So a lion, tiger, wolf or any other member of the animal kingdom can use it's natural abilities (strength, speed, claws) to naturally feed from another creature (pig, rabbit, chicken, whatever) and that is OK. When humans use their natural abilities (brains, ingenuity, learning) to feed themselves it is bad. I don't get it. We all love that specialization of the human society has allowed us to feed more people, and has allowed (among other things) the arts and humanities to prosper (granted this is a simplification, but if everyone was still raising their own food, there would be less time for other things). Not eating meat goes against thousands, if not millions, of years of evolution. And had we remained an agrarian society, we'd still be eating meat but wouldn't be having this online discussion. More people would be starving, nor would the Berlin wall have fallen, nor would the democratic uprisings in the Middle East be taking place. We'd still be living like the Waltons. It is hard to take a movement seriously, when they do not acknowledge both sides of the discussion.
