When EPA Administrator Christine Whitman returned to work after winter break, she was greeted with the following PETA billboard outside her Washington, D.C., office:

However, within a few days of launching this ad, PETA received a letter from Whitman advising us that her dog, Coors, had been suffering from cancer and had had to be euthanized. She also made the off-handed comment that “perhaps, with more research, more effective drugs may have been found to treat [Coors’] illness.”

While PETA quickly pulled the ad, out of compassion for Whitman and her family, PETA President Ingrid Newkirk did not hesitate to write back to the EPA administrator reminding her just how useless animal tests really are. Click here to view PETA’s letter (Adobe Acrobat Reader required).
