Animals raised for food in the United States have little or no legal protection on farms or during transportation. Federal law says that in slaughterhouses, cows, pigs, and lambs must be stunned before their throats are slit, yet the law is industry-regulated, and there is no penalty for violating it! That's why it is vital that consumers boycott Wendy's (and protest/leaflet at Wendy's restaurants) in response to the company's refusal to ensure that chickens killed for its restaurants are not grossly abused; or follow the lead of McDonald's and Burger King on an array of other animal welfare issues. Of course, the best thing that anyone can do for these animals is to stop eating them. Click here for a free vegetarian starter kit.
