Sara
Lee Corporation has become the latest company to help with People
for the Ethical Treatment of Animals' (PETA) campaign to reform
the March of Dimes. Sara Lee, a corporate sponsor of the March
of Dimes, has now agreed to earmark its corporate donations to
the health charity to be used strictly for non-animal testing
activities and to provide information about the March of Dimes'
animal experiments to all 154,000 Sara Lee employees so that they
can make an informed choice as to whether to support animal tests
or not.
PETA began the campaign to persuade the March of Dimes to drop animal tests after learning that it had funded experiments in which newborn kittens' eyes were sewn shut; social, intelligent primates were strapped into restraining devices for days at a time; electrodes were implanted into pregnant monkeys' uteruses; and cocaine, alcohol, and nicotine were administered to pregnant rats and micedespite the fact that we've known for decades that all these substances harm developing babies.
Please write to Sara Lee CEO John H. Bryan to thank him for making this compassionate and responsible decision not to support animal experiments:
