PETA STOPS TRAFFIC WITH “REALITY TV”

Postcards From the Edge

Tuesday, October 22, 2002

Greetings from Cleveland

Another day, another Ringling protest. It was a frustrating day because most people we spoke with were there because either they or their kids “loved” animals. We spent a lot of time explaining why going to the circus wasn’t a loving experience: the barbaric training tactics—a heavy reliance on whips and bullhooks; the stress of doing things that naturally terrify the animals (jumping through rings of fire or standing on their heads); and how animals are chained and caged in horrific conditions the rest of the time.
