PETA STOPS TRAFFIC WITH “REALITY TV”

Postcards From the Edge

Tuesday, October 22, 2002

Greetings from Bridgeport

After downing the best vegan fast food ever—two scrumptious BK Veggies—we joined local protesters outside the Ringling Bros. Circus for opening night. Bridgeport is the home of the P.T. Barnum Circus Museum and the Barnum Festival, which includes an annual “Whip, Whistle & Watch” luncheon. The whip is an apropos symbol of P.T. Barnum’s office. PETA has footage of Ringling trainers whipping an elephant in the face and gouging the animal with a metal bullhook. Whips and bullhooks are the training tools used on circus animals. We’ve repeatedly tried submitting our circus videos to the museum for inclusion among its collection—it IS a circus museum, after all. We can’t figure out why they keep rejecting us ... Hmmm.
