PETA STOPS TRAFFIC WITH “REALITY TV”

Postcards From the Edge

Saturday, October 19, 2002

Greetings from Baltimore

In addition to showing the “Meet Your Meat” video, we passed out dozens of vegetarian starter kits at the Big K and Wal-Mart. We had several “Aren’t people supposed to eat meat?” questions. We explained that humans are better suited to a vegetarian diet. Carnivorous animals have long, curved fangs and claws and a short digestive tract. Humans have flat, flexible nails, and our so-called “canine” teeth are minuscule. Human teeth are better suited to biting into vegetables, fruits, and grains than tearing through tough hides.

Apparently, Baltimore is a great town for vegetarians. We received recommendations for restaurants of every type that serve terrific vegetarian food: Liquid Earth, The Helmand (Afghan), The Five Seasons (Ethiopian), Planet on the Corner (Italian), Mean Bean Café (Slavic), and One World Café.
