Modern-Day Plagues Sweeping Europe -- Mad Cows, Sick Pigs Turn Euros into Veggies

Hundreds of thousands of sheep and cattle have been slaughtered to stop the spread of foot-and-mouth disease and mad cow disease in Britain and other countries in the European Union. Funeral pyres are burning 'round the clock. The entire beef industry is on the verge of collapse.

The disasters striking overseas are the result of "modern" methods used in the meat industry. Viruses spread like wildfire on factory farms where animals are crammed together without enough space to turn around or lie down. Click here to learn more about factory farming. Saving pennies by grinding up left-over bits of sheep and cows and feeding them to other cows is believed to be responsible for mad cow disease and, in humans, the deadly variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease. If ever there was a time to clean up the cruelties of the meat industry, it's right now.

Sickening Slaughter

pile of dead pigsTelevision footage of cattle and sheep shot and bulldozed onto burning heaps of corpses has shocked viewers around the world. As terrible as these images are, they are no worse than the inside of any slaughterhouse on any normal day. In the United States alone, 25 MILLION animals—without foot and mouth disease—are killed every single day for human consumption. Click here to see footage taken inside U.S. slaughterhouses.

The farmers "weeping" over the animals killed are the same people who routinely castrate and de-horn cattle, and castrate and tail-dock pigs without any anesthesia or painkillers. Their tears are motivated by economics, not compassion.
