Take Action: Help Put Kindness Behind
the Wheel!
- If you drive a car with a non-leather interior or if a car company
was especially accommodating with your request for a non-leather interior,
to let us know. We may put your testimonial on this site or use it in
our literature. PETA reserves the right to edit testimonials for grammar
and brevity. Please include your name, name of city or state in which
you live, and your occupation. To read the testimonials of other consumers,
click
here.
- If you currently drive a car with a leather interior, please consider
removing the leather, replacing it with a non-leather material and sending
the leather back to the CEO of the car company along with a letter that
clearly explains that cruelty to animals in the form of leather will
not be tolerated. Let PETA know if you plan to take this action by clicking
here.
- Carmakers are working hard to promote leather as a luxury so they
can sell it at high prices and increase demand for it. Sustained pressure
from consumers is needed to convince car companies to turn their backs
on the use of animal skins. Sign this online
appeal to promise that the next car you purchase will not have a
leather interior, and encourage your friends, family members, and coworkers
to sign, too. PETA will share the appeal with car companies to let them
know that there is a demand for nonleather cars. You can also click
here to print out group or individual appeal sheets to complete
and mail to PETA’s U.S. headquarters at 501 Front St., Norfolk,
VA 23510. If you live in or closer to Europe, click
here to print out group or individual appeal sheets to complete
and mail to PETA Europe, Ltd., P.O. Box 36668, London SE1 1WA England.
Write and get your friends and family to write to the following
car companies (DaimlerChrysler, GM, Toyota, Ford, and BMW):
Thank DaimlerChrysler, maker of Mercedes-Benz, for agreeing
to make all future Mercedes-Benz models available with a leather-free
option, either direct at the dealership or via special order. Urge
DaimlerChrysler to do the same for its other brands.
If you are currently shopping for a car when you write, say so! If
you have the means to purchase these companies' vehicles, mention
it! And if you are a consumer who has tried to buy a top-model car
with a non-leather interior but were refused, let these companies
know how that made you feel!
