Ride Without the Hide—Choose Flesh-Free Vehicles
 |
| Ron and Ritchie Laymon restored their 1963 Jaguar
but used synthetic leather instead of animal skin for the
seats. Ritchie says the synthetic looks and feels so much
like leather that at car shows, even car enthusiasts cannot
tell the difference. |
There is nothing luxurious about the stolen skin of a tortured
animal, so steer clear of cruelty by purchasing only cars with
leather-free interiors.
Fact: It can take up to 15 cowhides to make the interior for just one car.
Bader, a leather supplier that sells skin to several car companies,
goes through 9,000 skins a day.
There is no excuse for supporting torture. Many wonderful synthetic
materials are available, and they look and feel as good or better
than leather—but without that dead-animal smell! Many car
companies also use a variety of terrific, cruelty-free natural fibers.
The list below is designed to help you shop for a car. It indicates
whether the car models listed are available with nonleather seating
and other nonleather interior parts.
This list will be updated as we receive additional information.
If the brand and model of your choice is not listed, please contact
your local dealership to find out whether it is available with
nonleather interior and let us know.
The list below is only meant to be used as a guide. Even if the
model of your choice is listed below as skin-free, please take
the time to ensure that this is accurate with your dealership
