Menu Foods Animal Tests: A PETA Investigation 2002-2003

Scene Descriptions:
Scene 1: A Menu Foods dog paws furiously at his/her cage.
Scene 2: Menu Foods dog YYUO exhibits stereotypical behaviour (i.e., relentlessly walking in circles) from cage confinement.
Scene 3: Menu Foods dog CKEAYG exhibits stereotypical behaviour.
Scene 4: Menu Foods dog H0B101 exhibits stereotypical behaviour.
Scene 5: Menu Foods cat 464 exhibits stereotypical behaviour associated with prolonged confinement.
Scene 6: Menu Foods dog HILMLM hides fearfully in the corner of her cage.
Scene 7: Lacking any socialization or enrichment, HILMLM is fearful of people and approaches the investigator in a submissive posture.
Scene 8: A Menu Foods dog has extremely long nails.
Scene 9: Menu Foods dog HJDMFT is suffering from hair loss and a mammary tumour. Forty-two days later, having received no veterinary treatment, the dog is finally killed.
Scene 10: Menu Foods dog CNAMHHN is caught in the flooring of her cage. An animal care technician has to use a steel bar to pry the slats of the cage floor apart to free the dog’s legs.
Scene 11: Menu Foods dog (H)8J483, injured by getting caught in the flooring of her cage, is placed in a carrier.
Scene 12: Her wounds shaved and washed, (H)8J483 is placed back in her cage. (H)8J483 received no painkillers.
Scene 13: This is a closeup of (H)8J483’s wounds one day after she was found in her cage. What appear to be stitches are in fact the jagged edges of her torn flesh. The dog received no painkillers.
Scene 14: Still in pain six days later, (H)8J483 gingerly sits on the metal flooring of her cage. Later this same day, she is killed.
