An animal-friendly guide to what’s in and what’s out for 2002

Wondering about new trends for the New Year? Asking yourself, Is it rad—or just plain bad? PETA’s 2002 in/out list tells all—with an animal-friendly twist. Who’s hot? Super-sweet Vanilla Sky star Cameron Diaz who saves birds by not eating them. Who’s not? The “Material Girl”—we call her “Meandonna” because she kills birds with her hunter hubbie, Guy Ritchie. Rescuing mutts (think Mr. Winkle) is in, buying pet shop pups from puppy mills is out. Harry Potter’s Hogwarts school is on the tip of everyone’s tongue, but hog parts aren’t. Spiderman’s vegetarian star Tobey Maguire has caught us in his web, but we wish Jennifer Lopez and her sleazy furs would just bug off.

Is it in, or is it a sin? Read on to find out which trends help out our animal friends.
