PETA wrote to Greenpeace to thank the organization for not publicly supporting the EPAs massive animal-testing programs. We noted that Greenpeace-U.K. has taken a progressive stance on animal-testing issues, and invited Greenpeace-U.S.A. to endorse a statement:
calling on EPA to increase its funding and use of non-animal test methods; and
endorsing the use of only those new test methods that have been rigorously assessed by the Interagency Coordinating Committee for the Validation of Alternative Methods and found to be scientifically valid.
Although Greenpeace-U.S.A. has not formally endorsed PETAs statement, the organizations legislative director confirmed that Greenpeace does not advocate animal-testing and supports the development and use of non-animal methods for chemical evaluation. He also indicated that Greenpeace-U.S.A. fully supports the progressive stance adopted by the organization's UK branch.
