Ed Asner Blasts Enviros for Supporting Animal-Testing
In the wake of Sir Paul McCartneys letter to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) asking that it immediately stop promoting the deadly Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program, one of the largest animal-testing programs in history, Ed Asner has become the latest celebrity to condemn the program. In a letter to the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), Asner urges the environmental group to reconsider its support of the animal-testing portion of the program, which would kill tens of millions of wild and domestic animals in painful tests of chemicals already on the market, even some chemicals that have been previously tested.
Asner writes: It is my belief that banning known toxins and implementing effective non-animal tests will do more to save lives and delicate ecosystems by far than the endocrine program. I urge the NRDC to withdraw its support of the animal-testing portion of the endocrine program and to support the immediate use and development of non-animal tests that are and will be relevant to people and wildlife.
