Memphis Zoo

A laboratory employee told PETA’s investigator that the Memphis Zoo purchased an undetermined number of pigs for use in its exhibitions from the laboratory that we investigated. We informed the zoo that hundreds—if not thousands—of pigs in the U.S. are in need of safe havens and that any number of these pigs could have been obtained by the Memphis Zoo at no cost and with very little effort. If what this lab employee told us is true, it is unconscionable that the Memphis Zoo would buy pigs—especially from a facility that profits from the misery, suffering, and death of unfortunate animals.

The zoo has not responded to our concerns. Please ask zoo representatives if the zoo did, in fact, buy pigs from a laboratory/animal dealer and, if so, why:
