Celebrities Who Ride Without the Hide
These days, more and more celebrities are choosing to cruise in cruelty-free
cars:
James
Cromwell—whose credits include The Sum of All Fears,
The Green Mile, The General's Daughter, and Babe,
for which he received an Academy Award nomination—sent a synthetic
"leather" briefcase to DaimlerChrysler-India CEO Hans-Michael Huber
to show his appreciation for Huber's role in the company's decision
to start offering humane, nonleather alternatives to leather seats
for C-, E- and S-class Mercedes-Benz models sold in India. Cromwell
also sent a letter to Jrgen Shrempp, chair of DaimlerChrysler's management
board, asking for a face-to-face meeting to present the case for offering
nonleather alternatives for Mercedes and other DaimlerChrysler cars
sold worldwide. |
Paul
and Linda McCartney used to custom order their top-of-the-line Mercedes
sedans with cloth seats, even though they had to wait weeks for delivery. |
Alicia
Silverstone refuses to travel in cars that have leather seats. She
drives an eco-friendly Toyota Prius hybrid and wears only cruelty-free
fashions. |
Kate
Pierson of the B-52s tried to buy a Mercedes ML320 sport utility but
could not find one with both fabric upholstery and the sound system
that she wanted. A New Jersey dealership told her that it would take
10 months to custom build one. Pierson said, "They call it the 'Leather
Package.' Can you imagine that? What if they had the 'Fur Package'?" |
