PETA’s Fashion Week Bash

The last place you might expect to find a PETA party is in New York’s Meatpacking District, but when looking for a space for our Fashion Week bash, we went straight to Stella McCartney’s boutique on W. 14th Street—the only haute couture shop in the city that’s entirely free of animal skins. “You all rock for keeping the dream alive. We all need to keep p***ing people off with our ‘uncool’ love of animals. … A huge congratulations for standing your ground from both myself and the animals,” said Stella.

At the packed evening affair, Stacked star Pamela Anderson joined PETA’s Ingrid Newkirk and Dan Mathews at the podium to recognize some of the latest movers and shakers to support PETA’s campaigns against cruelty to animals.

The Rev. Al Sharpton was given an award for backing PETA’s KFC boycott and narrating our Kentucky Fried Cruelty video. Sharpton dedicated his award “to the most passionate vegetarian I ever knew: my late, great friend Coretta Scott King.” PETA honored Martha Stewart for renouncing fur and hosting PETA’s fur-trade exposé and Moby for talking turkey on PETA’s holiday hotline promoting vegan recipes. Alan Cumming, who lambasted fur-wearers from the stage in Cabaret, presented a PETA award to his Threepenny Opera costar, songster Nellie McKay, for protesting Columbia University’s animal experiments and promoting animal rights at every concert and in every interview she does. Top designer Yeohlee, a Parsons alumna who had a change of heart about fur long ago, proudly awarded Tim Gunn, the chair of Parsons the New School for Design, for initiating a landmark PETA program at the school that teaches students how to use alternatives to fur and animal skins.

Other revelers, including Lake Bell of NBC’s hit Surface, electronica rockers Le Tigre, Station Agent star Peter Dinklage, Babe actor James Cromwell, and indie movie favorite Justin Theroux, enjoyed music by guest DJ Lady Bunny, drinks from Rain Vodka and Bonny Doon Vineyard, and delicious vegan food provided by New York’s Candle 79, Counter, and Heirloom.

Check out some video highlights and exclusive interviews from the event.
