What’s Red, White, Naked, and Really Mad at Canada?

Written by PETA | July 1, 2010

These three:

Canada Day

In honor of Canada Day, we threw a little birthday bash at the Canadian Embassy in D.C. to remind the world that hundreds of thousands of baby seals have their skulls bashed in each year during Canada’s annual seal slaughter.

Just because this year’s seal hunt is over, it doesn’t mean that we should let the Canadian government off the hakapik hook! Keep up the pressure all year round by staying active online.

Pam I think and hope that we all know that only some canadians support the hunt, and I’m very tired of herring about how the polar bears need help, they do of course but that seems to be the only thing many people care about, how about we just try to rid the world of animal cruelty one step at a time. Polar bears are endangered as you said, so they are at least more protected than the seals. Finally the kill quota accounts for about 2/3 of all of the seals killed, the rest are unreported, we don’t know wether they are old or young, healthy or sick, or mothers. The seal hunt is a horrible crime and needs to be stopped!

@OmiCat if they said that the clubbing of baby seals was stopped then why is it that i still know that people ar edoing it and there are still petitons about it!!!

  • OmiCat says:

You do realize that A They no longer hunt baby seals that hunt was banned in 1987 B it’s not entirely commercial but also a traditional hunt for sustenance C the manufacturing and transportation of those horrible polyester wigs those waifs sported probably contributed to more environmental damage than what a hunter could do.

  • HC says:

It doesn’t matter if clubbing seals is in Canada or anywhere else the point is to stop animal cruelty and get along.

  • Diane Hinkle says:

How can anyone torture baby sealsor any animal? If people were more like animals this would be a much better place to live. Animals are loving innocent creatures of God they do whatever they can to survivepeople do everything they can to destroy.

you know its not all canadians that do it you guys lump them all together. dont you have canadians in peta? YOU guys should be ashamed of yourselves because you guys dont stop to think about what you say before you do it.

  • pam says:

Caren what have you done to stop the American politician named Sarah Palin who fully supports hunting and killing endangered species? Seals are not endangered the polar bears your Sarah Palin wants to hunt are. Who is more barbaric? Us for telling our politicians to stop or you for letting yours express a desire eradicate an entire species? You deal with your politicians and we Canadians will deal with ours.

  • Camilla Ekman says:

Absolutely violent and criminal behaviour. I hope there will be nobody to buy the poor animals skins!!! Who buys is criminal too!

  • Deb says:

Considering most of the animal cruelty that I have watched comes from within the US I find it funny that you are attempting to call out Canada. Yes it’s a horrific act to bash in seals skulls but it’s a very small community doing this NOT all of Canada.. Canada should not be ashamed for who they are.. The act is horrible but again it’s a very small population of Canada.. I have been watching all of the Peta archives of horrible animal cruelty issues 98 of them come from the US… HMMM we ALL as people ought to be ashamed for the horrible abuse that is taking place RIGHT now on some farm to a chicken pig cow rat rabbit etc.. I promise I am not ok with hurting or bashing in the skulls if seals breaks my heart.. But to take it out on a whole country is a little odd. Considering most Canadians are against it. Just sayin’

  • Caren Hentnik says:

No reason to kill seals for skin we are in the 21st Century I think we can wear other man made materials to keep us warm. Unless you like to club defensive babies Canada Day I wouldnt celebrate that day for all the millions in the world. Canada should be ashamed of themselves barbarians

  • Anita Walsh says:

You cut down on the horrendous slaughter this year but you must stop the brutal inhumane and ecologically damaging killing altogether. It is shameful that you have allowed it for so long.
