Animals are not ours to eat, wear, experiment on, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.

So, we went into Donna Karan’s house yesterday and…

DKNY.jpgWe’ve been trying to get designer Donna Karan to watch some footage of exactly what happens to the animals killed for her fur coats for a long time now—and yesterday, a brave PETA member who was up in New York for fashion week made sure that happened, with a little help from some soy lattes: Dressed to the nines and carrying a tray of coffees, she marched up to Donna Karan’s apartment and was welcomed inside without any questions, and offered a seat in the living room. When Donna Karan returned home, my friend pulled out the mini DVD player she had in her bag and cued up the fur farm footage, prompting the following exchange:

DK: I can’t watch this now. I have somewhere to be . . . I just really don’t have the time.
PETA: Yes, but you’ve promised twice that you would stop using fur and you keep bringing it back. Everyone’s so disappointed. You have to know that this isn’t right.
DK: I’ve seen all these videos, but for me it’s just purses and accessories.
PETA: But for me and millions of other people, these are animals. They suffer terribly as they are electrocuted, gassed and skinned alive for their pelts.

…and so on, until Donna decided enough was enough and escorted my friend out of the house. Pissed off as she was, hopefully this has at least planted the seed in her head that it’s time to stop supporting the horrific abuses of the fur industry. But if that doesn’t work, we’ve got a few more tricks up our sleeve:

It would be easy to get in if you look and act the same as them. She was “dressed to the nines” and bearing gifts. Easy.

  • Emily says:

WowI’d warn papa not to wear those poor little things.

  • Fur hater says:

I was shocked when read this. I never knew this about her. I will never wear her clothes that’s for sure! It’s cruel to kill for fur. Especially when they use so horrible ways to kill and torture them. If I can so something how small action ever against the fur I will do it!

  • Lorenzo Rodriguez says:

    She is so stylin!

  • Justice says:

How about the ethical treatment of ALL life??

  • Gabby and Cindy says:

  • Leanne says:

I can’t believe Donna Karan doesn’t care. She has the power to help us end this cruel torture but she chooses not to. We just need to keep doing the best we can for Gods little creatures. At the end of the day DK is left with her conscience and the thought of killing defenseless animals. While at the end of ours we are blessed with the many lives we have saved. Congratulations HEROES!!!!

  • Jac says:

I’m horrified. What an evil bitch. We should wear her as fur.

  • Mindy says:

PETA. I love what you do.

  • Sheri says:

To bill prieto Are you kidding?? So because we believe in animal rights we must be jobless? You shouldn’t make assumptions. Donna Karan isn’t only eating meat she is using it TO WEAR

  • Sarah says:

Michele Only people who don’t have a job or went to college follow PETA? I went to college and have a job as an EDUCATOR…And I feel that someone needs to educate you on how ignorant you appear when you make comments like that. Kudos to PETA keep it up! All my Donna Karan stuff went immediately to Goodwill when I first got wind that she had been using fur!

  • Sondra says:

what goes around comes around… DK better hope that she never finds herself in China…

  • August Fishell says:

It really bugs me that people are no longer ignorant to animal suffering and torture yet choose asthetics over the cruel facts. It takes a certain type of person to disregard such a reality. Keep up the eye opening work PETA! August

  • Heidi Maebrae says:

Great job PETA I love seeing that you guys go to such extremes and sometimes even put your own lives in danger! just so that animals get a voice for whats going on! Keep up the awesome work I’m so happy for you guys!

  • Michael Steers says:

Someone should take that money hungry bitch to China and show her how animals are being butchered alive in the name of her fashion label. I will never buy anything of her merchandise again. She is as evil as the people skinning the animals alive only difference is that she is making more money. Her Greenbacks are covered in blood and animal cruelty.

  • A. says:

I’m embarrassed that I ever bought her stuff. I’ll choose another designer next time.
