Watch Ingrid’s Appearance on Colbert

Written by PETA | February 29, 2008

In case you missed it last night, here’s PETA President Ingrid Newkirk on Colbert talking about everything from her plans for her will to her recent book Making Kind Choices. Best Colbert Report ever, if you ask me.

  • Gina says:

Stephen Colbert is a HOTTIE! He is a comedian people what do you expect? Ugh LOVE HIM!

  • edward says:

If you think Colbert is stupid becuase he kept interrupting her then you have never seen his show before. He tries to make sure that the person does not get their point across. That is what makes him so hilarious.

  • Alexandra Niesen says:

i think this is great i love Ingrid she’s amazing. about not getting a word in edge wise steven does that with every guess of course its not a serious interview he’s funny as hell! But of course even with steven interrupting Ingrid’s words are always powerful.

  • Amanda says:

I actually think Stephen Colbert is quite hilarious with his overlyobnoxious ego and his need to get the last word. You need to understand he is like this with EVERYONE that he invites to the show. He’s not serious. Bridget I totally agree with you.

  • Mikael Grenefalk says:

Ingrid did a great job but that Colbert guy was amazingly annoying. Really he didn’t let her finish even ONE sentence. He’s a tard but Ingrid managed to perform in spite of the nerd in front of her.

  • Aislinn McCarthy says:

Actually though compared to other guests sh got to speak quite a lot and she did so very eloquently whereas most others in her position get flustered.

  • Mark Rounds says:

He let her on the air and allowed her to speak quite a bit. Thats not enough though is it? He didn’t let her just get up there an pontificate for 5 minutes straight so he’s a bad guy? He let this woman on the air which is more than most shows do. Just shut up and be HAPPY that he let her on at ALL to speak…

  • Ano says:

I don’t think you people understand the point of his show at all. Nor do you understand what humor is. He is a character and he has to act out that character. That character is suppose to be a rightwing Bill O’Reilly. His interviews are not serious interviews. Ingrid should know this if she agreed to go on his show and all of you should know that too. A simple search would tell you all this. It’s just to get her book out their to the public. Seriously the statement I just made has been repeated more than once and no one gets it still.

  • Mike Quinoa says:

JTP We are only the top predator when we have technology to help us outwhen that’s not available we’re way down the list. I don’t think Ingrid is too ashamed of being a compassionate person.

  • JTP says:

What an odd lady. barbecue herself? Awesome video though. A great example of just how seriously average society take people who are ashamed of being planet earth’s top predator.

  • Judith, Freedom Fighter for Animals says:

Phobosblack You are absolutely right on! Sometimes when I watch him I get so nervous I feel like I need a drink and I don’t drink except for a little wine. LOL Judith

  • Maya, CVT says:

In fairness to Colbert at least he invited Newkirk on his show. What other popular nighttime or daytime show had Newkirk been invited to? None. The Daily Show folks are known to have weird humor his may not be for everyone but he’s the only guy so far who invited Newkirk to speak to a huge audience. For that I praise him.

  • Phobosblack says:

Judith I’m not a big fan either I thought he was ok on The Daily Show but wears thin and doesn’t need his own show. I don’t necessarily think his show was a good choice for a message as serious as Ingrid’s. I just wanted to make sure people knew it was a farce.

  • Lisa says:

Maybe we should try Oprah next time. I have to admit I watch Cobert maybe once a week if nothing else is on. This is the first time I haven’t laughed. I don’t think this appearance helped the cause but I hope that maybe some were intrigued enough to check out the website and the reality of what going on in our world.

  • sky says:

I thought she handled that well. He interviews everyone that way and she held her ground without getting defensive. Very professional! She is an inspiration. I love animals!!

  • mindi says:

that was really pathetic. she barely got an uninterrupted word in edgewise!!

  • Shane says:

are you guys seriously missing the irony?? for anyone who’s seen Colbert before it’s a whole takeoff on O’Reilly Factorstyle bulldog journalism. Colbert’s guests usually are on to promote a book and be the butt of some good humor in the process.

  • Mark says:

Peter Singer was really good too httpwww.comedycentral.comcolbertreportvideos.jhtml?videoId79412

  • Kurt K says:

She knew exactly what she was getting herself into. You can’t expect Colberrt to change his approach because it was animal rights activist. He is the same way with all his guests and they know what to expect. She looked like she was having a good time. I don’t know what you are complaining about this was good publicity for PETA.

  • bridget says:

I usually like to watch him but I was very disappointed that he wouldn’t let her make a point. He was to over the top it’s a shame.

  • Anna says:

Not only was he an impolite interviewer by not allowing Ingrid to finish a sentence but he was completely out of line offering a “sample” of the part of him he knows to taste the best. What a total jerk. Excellent job to Ingrid however for keeping her cool in such a situation remaining focused and getting a clear message across anyhow. Best wishes with your new book!

  • Sonia says:

I have to say if this show is popular in America then it doesn’t say much for the American sense of humour. He is a prat and as others have said was rude and didn’t let Ingrid get a word in. The whole interview was a waste of Ingrids time she did well to keep control of herself I would have smacked him

  • Henry says:

GRRR! i wntd to fxcking kill that Colbert guy! hes so rude and interupptive! i want to puch his glasses off! hes so rude!

  • John says:

There is this thing called “humor” that you may not be aware of. Stephen Colbert is a COMEDIAN. This is a comedy show. This is not an animal rights show. Colbert’s whole act is to be like Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity and be a blowhard. In reality Stephen Colbert is a liberal who cares about animal rights. That’s why he had this woman on. By looking so stupid compared to her he is essentially promoting animal rights he just shows how stupid you’d have to be to not care about animal rights.

  • Amy says:

I agree with the others he didnt give her a chance to speak nor does it seem she was being taken serious to which animal rights is. I felt bad for her. She kept up with him pretty good though.

  • Judith, Freedom Fighter for Animals says:

Phobosblack I have been watching Colbert since he was working on the Daily show with Jon Stewart. I know exactly who he is and what he does . I still do not care for him. He should have let Ingrid say what she had to say. I simply do not like attack T.V. Peace!

  • Maya, CVT says:

Thc Colbert show is supposed to be a parody of Fox News. Sometimes his imitation is a bit too beleiveable.

  • Phobosblack says:

Those that have never watched Colbert need to understand he’s playing a character. He’s a deliberate parody of rightwing republican mudslingers.

  • Richard says:

    I like her lipstick

  • Rex's Mom says:

First of all I have never watched The Colbert Report but just watched this video here. This man is an obnoxious idiot! He didnt even let Ingrid talk. He constantly interrupted her and wouldn’t even let her give her message. I think this interview was a failure and I will NEVER watch this moron again!

  • Lauren says:

Good interview but he seemed pretty rude if you ask me.

  • Warwak says:

Smoke and mirrors grime reality pleasing the bad man to no end. Nice job under absurd conditions

  • Bibiana says:

I stayed up just to watch it. I thought the interview was good though he kept interrupting her but I guess that’s the way he interviews. Ingrid was great! She is the best.

  • Anonymous says:

y cant he let her finish a whole sentence

  • Antoinette says:

    he kept inturrepting her

  • Judith, Freedom Fighter for Animals says:

Whatever happened to the good old days when guests were being interviewed and allowed to finish their sentences without being attacked? Ingrid did a great job. But Colbert stinks! What happened to the manners that were taught to us by our parents and educators never to interrupt. Thank goodness for books. Attack T.V. a new low.

  • Maegan says:

I wached this last night his opening comment ”i hope she doesnt knaw her leg off when i cage her in the interview” that was hilarious!!!!!carl rove also lays eggs an has a claw on his right foot………………………………………………………………….i love it!!!

  • keith says:

Not sure really about the content of the programme but I suppose it gives Peta Ms.Newkirk and her book excellent exposure to the general public.

  • Brianna Fritchey says:

I was quite disappointed he barely gave her a chance to speak it was sad…

  • EL says:

I dont’ think Ingrid managed to get word in edgeways.. may be few words.. obviously not a ‘serious’ interview !….
