Want Drugs With That?

Written by PETA | August 13, 2010

Unless you’re insane, you know that the typical fast-food meal—cheeseburger, fries, and a milkshake—is bad for you. Not only does eating fatty meat and dairy products widen our waistlines, it also narrows our arteries. Now, one British researcher has come up with the brilliant (sarcasm alert) suggestion that fast-food joints should offset the effect of all this junk food on our cardiovascular health by serving each meal with a side order of cholesterol-lowering drugs—as in, “Do you want side effects with that?”

Of course, since 50 percent of the world’s antibiotics end up inside animals raised for their flesh, Big Pharma would probably be happy if you ordered the meat and meds. But if you find yourself at the drive-through, just say, “I’ll have the veggie burger—hold the Lipitor!”

Wow 50 of the world’s antibiotics….? That’s astounding. No wonder there are so many superbugs around these days. Maybe fastfoodeating folks will get a hint here…just say noooooooo!

PETA’s suggestion for protein intake John is. Whole grainsoatmealbeanspeanut butterbrown ricepeaslentilstofusoy milknutsseedsbananasbroccolicarrotsand fake meats such as vegan burgers and hot dogs. And contrary to popular belief you can’t actually get protein from meat because the vitamins are dead. The only reason we get vitamins from plants are because they’re still alive.

Protein? Thats easy. Beans as in lentils refried beansget the fatfree or the vegetarian garbanzos white beans red beans black beansetc. Also if you eat nuts or seeds and whole grainsthe 2 tgthr provide complementary amino acids which are the building blocks of protein. I use lentils in many recipes in place of ground meat.they can be cooked ahead of time and frozen in 1 cup portions which is about right for a 2 serving recipe.

  • Jody says:

Suggestion for protein??? How about many different vegetables? Beans? Rice? Bread? Where do you thing that animals get their protein from? Eating plants…let’s just cut out the middle man. Yes we do have to eat more veggies to get that protein but we don’t consume cholesterol saturated fats drugs and other dangerous things.

This was rather funny and sad. It’s a sign of the times that we turn to drugs when confronted with health issues. It’s easier than changing behavior. Burger King offers a veggie burger that tastes good. No need to kill an animal for flavor.

It’s the American way do what you want and compensate with meds. It’s sad that it keeps getting worse and worse with each generation. I only just started paying attention a year or so ago I’m twentyfour. I have spider veins my mom didn’t have until she was thirty and back problems my dad didn’t have until he was fifty. Got to save my four yearold NOW before it’s too late. He’s getting a lunch sent to school with him every freaking day. I’ve also noticed that a lot of the “picky eater” kids are the ones whose parents don’t enforce healthy mealtimes. The parents my generation are so used to getting instant gratification that they’d rather just bend to the kids instead of putting up with the tantrums. It’s ridiculous. And the kids are expected to die before we do.

John eating a normal healthy diet will give you all the protein you need. Most people consume far too much protein. You’ll get plenty from beans nuts and many many other things. Too much protein damages the kidneys over time so you really want to make sure you don’t consume it in excess.

  • RV says:

There’s loads of protein in vegetables a fact a lot of people seem to miss strangely! Even fruit has some protein as well as nuts seed oils beans pulses soya products such as Tofu. But getting protein from veg works well it’s of the highest quality and also rich in vitamins nutrients and minerals. Protein isn’t a great problem ion the west anyway most people are eating too much. And too much protein from chicken and eggs and similar has a negative effect on your calcium balance.

  • Rachel A says:

John Thanks for asking… the building blocks of proteins are amino acids and these can be obtained from eating a decent variety of nuts beans seeds vegetables and other food sources. The western meatbased diet actually contains far more protein than the human needs. Unless you’re eating literally nothing whatsoever you’re NOT going to get a protein deficiency.
