Victory! Ferret Mill Fined for Cruelty

Written by PETA | August 22, 2012

Following PETA’s undercover investigation into Triple F Farms, a massive ferret-breeding operation, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has fined the company nearly $17,000 for violating at least eight regulations under the Animal Welfare Act.

A Bad Business

The violations were discovered during USDA inspections conducted in response to PETA’s submission of video footage and other evidence.

Documents recently obtained from the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division show that Triple F President Jack Fallenstein also agreed to pay 28 employees more than $28,000 in back wages to settle 38 violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act following a federal investigation prompted by PETA’s complaint to the agency.

Triple F: Failing Ferrets

PETA’s investigation into the ferret mill lasted nearly four months and documented systematic and often fatal neglect and abuse of ferrets. We found that Triple F owners, supervisors, and workers left newborn ferrets for dead when they fell through wire cage bottoms 3 feet onto the filthy concrete floor, housed ferrets in severely crowded conditions, and deprived ferrets with bleeding rectal prolapses, gaping wounds, herniated organs, and other painful conditions of veterinary care or euthanasia. PETA’s investigator also saw ferrets thrown into the trash—and into the facility’s incinerator—while still alive.

Triple F sells ferrets to pet stores and laboratories around the world. Since 2006, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has had contracts worth more than $1.5 million with the company. The CDC signed even more contracts with this filthy factory farm after PETA shared its evidence and the USDA’s findings with CDC brass. PETA has called on the agency to rescind Triple F’s contracts and disqualify it from future contracts. The National Institutes of Health, the Food and Drug Administration, and the Navy have also had contracts with Triple F worth nearly $400,000.

What You Can Do

Please urge the director of the CDC’s Procurement and Grants Office to stop the agency from funneling taxpayer dollars to Triple F.

They should be fined for each ferret that is there, and shut down the entire operation.

How can this happen. Are our hearts so cold that we can turn away from such cruelty and do nothing. Are our souls so black that we can not see that we have become the mosters of every nightmare. We must become their hope. If not then we are without hope, and have become forever lost.

This is the 21st century; we are allegedly an enlightened society; LET’S ACT LIKE IT ! ! !

  • Duane says:

What the #%*$!!! Fines for Triple F Farms, Inc. are a JOKE! What are fines really going to do, if anything? They surely have a lot of money that fines are chump change to them. The place(and others like it) need to be SHUT DOWN!!! What if anything REAL can we do? To hope for this or that doesn’t do any good for those helpless ferrets. The humans at these places are the real animals!

  • Carole Dubuc says:

It’s so sad i hope one day this tyrans will be treat like the treat this poor animals …yes they will…..

  • MARTHA LIBIA PEÑA HERRERA says:

GRACIAS PETA POR AYUDAR A ESTOS ANIMALITOS, PERO SE DEBEN DE CERRAR YA ESTOS SITIOS DE MALDAD CONTRA LOS ANIMALES.

  • Rob says:

$17,000? Really? That’ll go in the books as a small business expense.

  • Nicholas says:

punishment is good, but jail would be better than fines

  • Luanna says:

Triple H farms will scam you if you read their website!! It needs to be shut down!!!!

  • Thomas says:

$17K is nothing compared to what they get from government in contracts. They should have been closed and all their property confiscated, such personal as the company’s. Their labs should at least be put under surveillance, and tight control for some time, their names should be published publicly, so that everyone could spit into their faces.

  • chander kumar soni says:

    stop all these rubbish cruelty.

  • Virginia Greenwood-Warner says:

How on earth can we treat these magnificent creatures like this???? Oh it’s just so awful, I can hardly breathe. How can they???????? Thank you Peta – again and again and again. Sadly the fine is not nearly enough Got to get this place closed – at the very least let ALF get in.

    This is unbearable.

These people are insane. They have lost all feelings.

  • Yvette Dobosz says:

How is this evrn going to remotely help, when they are still operating. I sat here for a half hour thinking, WHAT IF THAT WAS MY FERRET?! The ceo of the company is probably sitting there and laughing drinking scotch at this paltry amount he has to pay, which will probably come out of the workers wages. In fact I am pretty darn sure, he or she is going to hire more disgusting people to kill these poor ferrets. What the hell is wrong with people.

  • Jane says:

This is so awful, it can’t be explained in mere words. Why are animals allowed to be tortured? How can anyone want a job doing this? Makes me so sick, I see this horror happening in our Country and others and it just makes me cry and cry.  God please help our animals, punish the wicked.

  • Vikas Haridas says:

A good victory, but seriously only 17,000? What a joke. This is why some of these rulings make no sense nowadays. The punishments are simply not balanced enough to fit the crime.

  • RM says:

Fining them will never be enough. I hate the human race. This happens because so many able beings turn a blind eye. I guess all we can hope for is justice being served in the form of Karma. I wish nothing but pain and suffering on those who so willingly bestow pain and suffering on such helpless cute loving animals. Shame on you!

  • Laura says:

Triple F needs to be SHUT DOWN!

  • Lynne97060 says:

Thanks so much, PETA. Ferrets are a gift of joy! Anyone who could deliberately hurt a ferret isn’t someone I need on the planet.

  • RedBullLiz says:

    Really?! As much as I’ve loved ferrets, this just got me down to my knees… )*;

  • Sherri says:

I highly commend PETA for their valiant ongoing efforts to end mills, cruelty, abuse towards all animals such as this one with the ferrets. The video saddened me and broke my heart to see such innocence be exposed to the on going cruelty of Triple F. My one question is this, I was reading that it took nearly four months of investigations on PETA’S behalf. In “any” case is it necessary to have to investigate for such extended links of time for cases of cruelty, neglect, ect… to stick in the court system? Why must animals have to endure pain and suffering for such a lengthy period versus being rescued sooner? I am just asking in order to try to understand how this all works, legally.

  • DO says:

What a disgrace. I hope the animals are ceized and this place is forced to close. Just awful….

  • colleen gilbee says:

I’m very happy that they will have to pay, but are they getting shut down? I’m sure that fine is not going to stop them, now they will just double production to cover the costs. I have a ferret and seeing this was like a knife stabbing in my heart.Humans are so mean and evil to animals, it makes me sick!! This is why I don’t feel bad when there is a natural disaster, it is just nature fighting back! The same way humans destroy nature, nature is going to destroy humans…

  • Hazel says:

Thank you PETA for uncovering this. $17,000 as a fine is a small sum – not enough to put these people out of business. They should be banned from operating, licence revoked and unable to re-apply and or a prison sentence. Unacceptable on all counts but there are most likely big bucks involved somewhere so they won’t be stopped. As if $17,000 represents a fine for all that has been done – perhaps that should be per month! Shame on you Ferret Mill

  • sardar1202 says:

    stop this cruelty !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Brittney says:

    :’(

  • Abbie says:

THEY SHOULD BE CHARGED MILLIONS OF DOLLARS! $17,000 is like pocket change for them. But nice job, PETA.

  • Linda W. Seely says:

This inhumane treatment to animals must stop!!!!! Not one more penny of our taxdollars should go into Triple F. They have been in violations repeately and had to pay 44,000 in fines. How cruel it is to torture some defendless and voiceless animals. Triple F needs to be closed down immediately! There are so sicko who run Triple F.

  • Chris says:

This is so disturbing! Ferrets just want to love you and be loved back. I will NEVER buy from a pet store or support animal testing!

  • Adriana says:

  • Sergio Rubiano says:

    No more cruelty!!!

  • Jakartarose says:

Evidently these people don’t have any feelings for these creatures whatsoever. I am ashamed they are called humans for it is a reflection of our species. Imagine what these monsters would do to you if they are able to do this to innocent creatures! There should be stricter laws and this little fee is nothing for what they’ve done. Evidently, our lawmakers don’t think enough of animals either and should be thrown out of office!!!!

  • Paola Gavino says:

Please stop using animals for experimentation or any other form of abuse, there are other methods available now, no need to keep harming innocent animals

  • paula says:

I am more than happy that this aweful mass breeding farm got a fine. Now they need to be shut down and the ferret victims saved. As a ferret mom this is heartbreaking what these little fuzzies endure at this ferret breeding mill and at the vivisection labs.

  • Lyra says:

Please stop this cruelty, it is very basic..why do u throw a live animal?! This is just inhuman! no wonder God will give us calamities that makes us so helpless also, its bec. we are too much!!
