Tragedy Seal Strikes Back

Written by PETA | May 13, 2011

Tragedy Seal, the socially conscious friend of Socially Awkward Penguin, has really gotten people’s creative juices flowing. PETA supporters have been flocking … err … swimming(?) to our website to submit their own inspired Tragedy Seal slogans protesting Canada’s annual slaughter, during which thousands of baby seals are bludgeoned or shot.

I read a book some time ago documenting the start of Greenpeace. Early on when they began campaigning against the seal hunt in New Foundland (I think it was) a fake fur production plant was proposed for the area which could have offered permanent employment rather than seasonal to many of the men who participate in the hunt. Unsuprisingly the proposal was turned down, no doubt some one with interests vested in the hunt got in the ear of officials.

My thoughts and prayers going out to all people & companion aniamals who lost their homes in Slave Lake, Alberta. Seals will be spared during this rebuilding tragedy.

In response to Tofer, I agree, nature is cruel but there is no species more cruel than homo sapians. Animals are driven by the need to survive whereas modern man is more likely to be driven by greed.

  • Get Real says:

Tofer, the difference is animals dont know they are inflicting pain not only that they have to do those things for survival, we certainly do not.

@Robin Ebner You seem to be trolling by using an overly zealous persona to highlight negative ideas held by the overly zealous. But, I’m going to take the troll bait and attempt to talk to you. Making vast generalizations are almost always wrong. Saying that because a portion of our population does participate in barbaric and unethical behaviors does not mean we all do it (An example of an entire superorder being blamed for something similar is when many people hunted sharks after JAWS premiered, while only few species of shark pose harm to humans, and even fewer of those species have even attacked us BY ACCIDENT) Yes, animals DO do these things. All predators (and a large amount of omnivores) kill, more eat their killed animals. Bottlenose Dolphins rape one another, kill children to rape their mothers (Lions do both of these as well, animals care little about infanticide.) Dolphins hunt for sport, species of ants actually enslave other species (These are species-wide events, by the way, not a few sick-minded dolphins,) animals rarely take care of their young, proportionally. And, there are several different criteria for intelligence, intelligent species, sentience, etc. I would like to know which one you use. Also, these men do unpleasant work, if they had a choice, I doubt they would do this if they had more choices, there is no league of evil baby seal killers up in Canada specifically made to piss you off and make baby seals extinct. Also, sub-human men killing baby seals means they’re killing their children? Thats a bit harsh and nonsensicle. In closing, PETA, please try to save a less cute species next, like Clostridium Tetani, it will give me respect for you. Also, no more attempting to jump on the nerd-culture bandwagon, we worked hard to get this.

21st Century and we are stil killing seals for fur. How sad no wonder the end of the world is coming

  • Tofer says:

Of course I am totally for animal rights, but what Robin says above makes no sense. Those people killing animals are indeed sick in their head. However animals do cheat, steal. I.E. food, a carcase sitting in the wild does not go uneaten. Animal eggs are stolen out of the nest as food… Animals in the wild are in fact, vicious, by nature and survial instinct. Baby sharks eat their weaker siblings while still in the womb, a survival technique which helps them to hunt after birth. I could go on & on, but I think you get my point…

I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHY a SUPPOSE TO BE”SUPERIOR INTELLIGENT Species”As HUMANS,CAN BE & ARE NOT EVEN AS INTELLIGENT as the Smallest and Most Timid of ALL, Furry Lil Creatures as the “Shrew”.ALL ANIMALS ARE SO VERY MUCH MORE HIGHLY INTELLIGENT THAN ANY HUMAN SPECIES,WAY MORE INTELLIGENT,NURCHERING,CAREING,LOVING,PROTECTING,ETC. Even Animals in the WILD, & to TOP IT OFF,THEY DO NOT KILL,MURDER,RAPE,MOLEST THEIR OWN CHILDREN,ROB,STEAL,CHEAT.FOR WHAT REASON DO THESE SO CALLED big man hunters & I SAY THAT “LOOSELY”because in NO HUMANLY WAY ARE ANY OF THESE PARTICIPANTS MEN..I think that they are just to AFRAID & SCARED to BECOME A REAL MAN and STAND UP and TELL THE OTHERS HOW WRONG IT IS TO KILL AN INFANT THAT CANNOT FIGHT BACK.IN NO WAY CAN THEY FIGHT BACK,WITH WHAT ,and THEY BRUTALLY DO IT IN FRONT OF THEIR MOTHERS WHO CAN’T STOP IT EITHER. Do these SUB-HUMAN SO CALLED WANNA BE MEN,BEAT THEIR OWN CHILDREN TO DEATH,THIS ATROCIOUS INHUMANE ACT NEEDS TO BE STOPPED..
