Town Says NO to Pamplona-Style Bull Run

Written by PETA | August 29, 2011

Update: Even though the town has said “No” to this bull run, the organizer is still planning on having the bull run on private land, despite the public outcry calling for the run to be canceled.

Hats off to officials in the Arizona town of Cave Creek for revoking a permit sanctioning a bull run when the organizers failed to procure sufficient insurance coverage. This may be enough to stop the event, since it means that liability for any injuries now becomes the responsibility of the promoter and the owner of the local ranch where the run is supposed to take place.

In Pamplona, the bull runs end in cruel bullfights.

PETA had contacted the mayor and town council and let them know that modeling an event after Pamplona’s annual bull run would be cruel and unsafe. Bulls would be antagonized into racing at breakneck speed, which would put them as well as participants and spectators at risk.

Please thank Cave Creek officials for taking public safety and cruelty to animals seriously.

Thank you for stopping this cruel event. Please join us in our graceful attempt to abolish cruelty to animals (this includes mice, rats and fish and includes killing animals to eat them – hopefully no one is eating rats still – the mice and rats suffer more from animal testing). Tammy

Thank you Cave Creek officials. Could you make this a permanent NO regardless of the insurance and security? I really do not understand why this is considered fun or entertaining.

hi fellow animal lovers. i’ve been posting on the official facebook, running of the bulls, event page for a couple days now expressing my disgust with the event. i reposted this article and received this direct quote from an event coordinator named, cori garcia, “Actually, the permit was never revoked by Cave Creek. The Town of Cave Creek is in full support of the event, we just do not need to get a permit. Running of the Bulls LLC and the land owner are taking full responsibility, voluntarily.” i’ve confirmed with friends that live in az that the event is still a go. the legalities of this event are outside of my scope of knowledge. any support, advocacy, legal knowledge, rants, posted on the running of the bulls event page, would be greatly appreciated. this PETA article (since the facebook, running of the bulls site is still up and running) was the first and only post that hasn’t been deleted by the event hosts. good luck!
